Face not peeling after Jessner peel on day 4 after.

Question

I’m on day four of my jessner peel and only my chin and a section of my forward are peeling. I’ve had it done several times before and my entire face peeled so I’m just wondering if it’s bad if the rest of my skin doesn’t come off? Will I need to do another peel or can I do something with less down time? Thank you

There is definitely nothing wrong with not peeling. Peeling is a side effect. It is never guaranteed. Just like some people may experience side effects from medication, some people may not peel from a chemical peel. The factors that contribute to this is how hydrated, thick and exfoliated your skin is. Since it sounds like this is something you have done regularly in the past, the more you have the treatment, the less likely you are to peel. Do not worry though, you're still getting the benefits of increased cell turn over. There is no way to apply acid to the face and have it do nothing. Maybe next time you can try getting more layers applied if you can handle it and if your skin can handle it. Talk to the professional that performed this and let them know you desire to peel and you didn't peel much with this last treatment. They should be able to adjust the treatment to give you better chances of peeling.

Sometimes it can take a week to begin peeling. You may also want to switch to another type of peel to confuse you skin. You may need to even bump up the strength if your skin is getting used to the same peel. Best of luck

Great question and it sounds like you've been taking very good care of you skin. If you find your peels are not feeling as effective as they did when you started, you may want to consider trying an exfoliating facial before applying the peel. For example microdermabrasion or dermaplaning to remove the first layers of skin that is dead or damaged. This allows for deeper penetration of the peel which can improve your results. Ask your skincare professional to see if they would recommend the same. Best of luck!
