Can Dysport have caused a vertical indentation in my forehead? (photo)

Dysport and Botox are neuromodulators which relax the muscles where injected. I suspect a lot of your other lines and wrinkles have gone away or softened seriously and the vertical lines are left behind. Thank you for your question. It is impossible to determine the cause of the new indentation without a physical evaluation of your results. It may be that your Dysport® injections were imbalanced. In this case, a follow-up treatment may resolve the issue. However, it’s also possible that the product is only accentuating the natural shape of your forehead, in which case, dermal fillers may smooth out the new indentation.

Thank you for your question. Sometimes when Dysport is injected into the glabella without being injected into the frontalis, the body will recruit the untreated muscles. Thus, causing new lines or wrinkles to form. I recommend following up with your injector to discuss your concerns and to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of Luck!

Great question and thanks for the photo!  It's hard to tell exactly what happened with your injections without knowing you as a patient, or at least before your treatment.  In general, if an injector only immobilizes one muscle, the body does this neat thing where it recruits other muscles to take over for the weak one.  This can cause some unusual lines that were softer before or not even present before the treatment.  This is more dependent on the injector and their skills than the actual product used.  This is the same with Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin.  Call/email your provider with this photo and ask what they think the issue is.

Sometimes when Botox is injected into the glabella (for frown lines) without simultaneously being injected into the frontalis (forehead muscle), the body will recruit the additional untreated muscle causing new lines or wrinkles to form. I recommend you followup with your injector to discuss your concern and to determine if additional Dysport injection into the forehead muscle may help.

The Dysport did not cause this indentation just made something that was already there, more noticeable. When Dysport is injected, the muscle becomes immobilized and lies flat against the underlying bone structure - making existing indentations in the skull more apparent. Now that your injector is able to see this, he/she could amend their injection technique to try to account for this indentation so it is not as noticeable, post Dysport. Alternatively, a small amount of filler could be injected to fill in the indent, making your forehead look more uniform. I would follow up with your injector for further evaluation and discussion.

Thank you for your question, and for submitting your photo.  It's impossible to say exactly what happened with your injections without reviewing your photos before your treatment as well.  In general, I find that sometimes, if Botox or Dysport injections are not properly balanced, they can result in odd muscle tone which can lead to the appearance of new lines or divots.  This has more to do with the injection technique and not the product itself.  I would recommend that you follow-up with your injector to discuss your concerns - he/she may be able to balance out your injections with a touch-up treatment.  Best of luck.
