I'm booked in for a breast lift/aug and two weeks later am booked to fly (domestic)and play a gig (I am a drummer and guitarist). Do you think I would do damage to the operation and breast? It's high energy. Thanks!
Answer: Drumming after breast lift with implants I would discourage drumming just two weeks following a breast lift. This is still quite early in the post operative period. There is a good chance that you could cause injury to your breast that would require another surgery.

Answer: Time needed to recover from Breast Lift with Implants I don't think this will be enough time to recover as drumming is a high energy activity.RE: Post-Operative Healing after breast lift with implants:Here are the instructions we give to my patients -The patient will go home in a bra or with only light dressings over the incision lines.Patients can usually return to work in one week to ten days. Sutures are dissolvable but the ending knot is removed within 1-2 weeks.Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be started in 7-10 days with light lifting of 20 pounds or less from 10 days to 3 wks. After 3 weeks progressive exercise with running and lifting of heavier weights after 6 weeks.

Answer: "High energy" activities after breast lift plus implants should be delayed. Even careful, precise surgery by the "best" plastic surgeon anywhere can NOT accelerate your collagen synthesis, scar durability, your blood vessel strength against bursting and bleeding, or negate excessive scar tissue formation (capsular contraction) in the face of bruising in the tissues that are being stressed with high-energy drumming."Allowing" activity sooner is not indicative of better surgery, just a willingness to accept increasing your risk of bleeding leading to capsular contracture, re-operation, and further delay. So who is REALLY accepting those risks? And why would YOU want to?Why put your results at risk? Wait a full 4-6 weeks for strenuous activity and build up those activities gradually, so that by 6 weeks post-op there are NO further restrictions except exposing your scars to ultraviolet--which will not be a problem unless you play your gigs topless in an outdoor stadium!Enjoy this one from the stands and reschedule your participation, But ask your surgeon, to whom you will go if there IS a problem. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Answer: Will I be ok to drum after 2 wks? In my opinion, two weeks is too early to return to “high-energy” activities. Make sure that you run your questions/concerns by your plastic surgeon, who knowing exactly what is planned, will be your best resource. If in doubt, since this gig out; do not put the outcome of the planned procedure at risk. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast Lift with Implants Hi,Many plastic surgeons go much longer than this before taking on vigorous activity. We let patients (we do a lot of flight attendants) after BA and Lift travel at 1-2 weeks with a companion who can carry everything. But for us, high energy wouldn't be until three weeks. Other surgeon say 6 wks., but three weeks works for us. Keep your surgeon in the loop on this question. All the best, "Dr. Joe"
