Dark marks worsened over a month after IPL treatment. Can anything be done? (Photo)

photograph Hoax. I understand your concern. An IPL photofacial is an
outstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright light
to target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin.It is difficult to make an assessment without a
formal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hope
the information provided here is useful.For discolorations I recommend that my patients have a series of six monthly IPL treatments combined with skin care products including hydroquinone, kojic acid, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and sunscreen. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can be treated with such products as well.Please consult with a doctor for specific

Thanks for your question and posting a picture.  I don't see any areas of terrible concern in your picture.  We recommend a series of 3 IPL treatments to correct sun damage, usually space about 1 month a part.  The pigment will usually look worse before it gets better as part of the healing process.  You will probably notice the pigment get darker as it gets closer to the surface.  Some will be absorbed by your immune system.  Some will actually come to the surface and flake off.  In your case, based on your description, I would say you are just due for another treatment.  Best of luck.

It sounds like your skin was responding well, but maybe the product was the issue. Double check what your aesthetician has you putting on - it is very unlikely melanin, but more likely something to keep down melanin production after the laser, which can be very important on darker, and particularly Asian skin for best results around the time of the laser. If it has tretinoin (RetinA), that, or other ingredients in the cream may be causing a reaction. Be sure to contact your treating physician's office with your concern so they can stop or change the cream.
