Will IPL help CYSTIC acne, and what provider? I have had acne since I was 16, I am now 27 and no luck.

I suggest getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Acne requires a combination approach to get long term improvement. I recommend a combination of Cosmelan, salt facials, peels, lasers, microneedling/prp, blue light, radiofrequency and isotretinoin.  Best, Dr. Emer

outstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright light
to target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin.It is difficult to make an assessment without a
formal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hope
the information provided here is useful.There are many energy-based treatments used to treat acne. In our office I use the Forever Clear BBL acne laser treatment. This uses blue light, red light, and infrared light to target and destroy multiple aspects of acne. This works well on all forms of acne including cystic acne. For my patients I recommend an initial series of six to eight weekly treatments followed by one maintenance treatment every six to 12 weeks thereafter. Further improvement is seen when the treatments are combined with topical products such as retinoic acid, salicylic acid, clindamycin, azeleic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and sunscreen. Results are seen slowly over weeks to months. Patience is important.It is more important to identify a good provider than to look for a specific device. I recommend looking for experience, before and after photographs, and testimonials.Please consult with a doctor for specific

Thanks for your question.  There is anecdotal evidence that some laser procedures can help with cystic acne.  It is thought that the source of cystic acne is very deep under the skin where topical treatments are not effective.  We have treated cystic acne patients with the PicoSure FOCUS lens and they report improvements as soon as the next day.  The FOCUS lens is FDA approved to reduce acne scaring as well.  Best of luck.
