Buttock Implant Removal & Fat Transfer?

Question

Can you remove buttock implants and do a fat transfer at the same time? I have had buttock implants done which while swollen and new were great, but now you can see them quite clearly. I am a thin woman.

I personally am not willing to perform fat transfer into the buttock at the same time as buttock implant removal. There is a high risk of inadvertent injection and/or seeping of the fat into the old implant pockets, leading to death of the fat, resulting finally in severe infection. A much more reasonable option would be to wait 6 months. If by chance the implants were placed on top of the muscle then replacement to under the gluteal muscle would be preferred. Regarding buttock augmentation, let me also mention that I currently see at least 1 - 2 patients per week that failed "brazilian buttock lift" (i.e. the fat melted away after 10 - 12 months) and are now seeking a more reliable and permanent option (i.e. buttock implants). . Another tip is that if you purposely gain weight (i.e. fat) for the procedure, the fat you lose first as you get back to your baseline weight is that very same fat that was transferred into your buttock...so don't fall victim to this recommendation. Thank you for your questions.As long as buttock implants are placed correctly into the right place, i.e. intramuscular, the usually work very well. So the first question to review would be: are your implants in the right place or not. If so and you want to remove them, fat grafting is an excellent option for volume replacement.The capsule of the previous implants can be used as a recipient bed and take rates are mostly excellent. You need a large volume of fat though. If you are thin, that can well be a problem.
