Is microdermabrasion or dermaplaning safe during pregnancy? Is it best to wait until post-pregnancy and post-covid?

Thank you for you question. Of course, always speak to and listen to the advice of your physician. Microdermabrasion and dermaplane are both considered mechanical exfoliation treatments. No chemicals are used. Typically, it is safe to receive either of these treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

no studies have been performed on pregnant women, so it is recommended to avoid any treatments.  however,  I let my patietns decide and sign waivers if they want treatmetns during pregnancy. I do not feel these procedures cause any harm.  facials, peels, and skincare (see link) seem to be regularly performed without issues.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello there! Almost all aesthetic procedures are not tested on pregnant women. That being said, dermaplaning just involves removing the top layer of dead skin/fine hair on the face. This will not cause any issues with pregnancy. Hope this helps!-Sarah RN BSN
