Tummy tuck 8 weeks ago and I've had discharge coming out of my belly button. PS says he will need to cauterize the wound?

Hello. Great question. However, with out pictures it is difficult to provide an accurate evaluation. Based on your description, it is normal to need some cauterization to aid with wound healing. Follow up with your surgeon as he know you best. If concerns persist, please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for a detailed examination.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Without photographs or a diagnosis it is difficult to offer advice but it is possible to need to cauterize granulation tissue formation that could have started to develop.  Hope this helps.

Cauterization of a wound may at times be indicated in order to promote better healing.  It is important that you communicate any changes in your healing to your surgeon.  You should feel comfortable and confident in what to expect during recovery.

This is not uncommon and sometimes a stitch breaks thru or the wound separates a bit and we get proud flesh or granulation tissue which needs to be removed or cauterized.
