I was denied breast augmentation surgery for elevated liver levels. Are there any natural ways to bring these levels down?

My doctor left me with my results and they left me with no direction on what to do or where to go from here. All they said was to get my levels normalized and then I can have surgery. My AST was 197, my ALT was 289, and my ALK Phosphate was 588. What could cause my levels to be so high and is there a natural way to normalize these levels?

Dear Jesse,     Sorry for your troubles. There are different reasons for the elevation of liver enzymes. Medication can cause it, hepatitis can bring it up and it is quite common among Asian population  to have chronic hepatitis C . They do have surgery after being cleared by their infection disease specialist , however the surgeon and staff have to be extra careful. Sometimes the elevation can be benign, like in Gilbert syndrome, however, in your case the enzymes are too elevated to be considered benign. So, see your infectious  disease specialist for your own health and if he clears you , you can have your surgery. Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Elevated liver enzymes can be due to hepatitis, there is medications, and other ailments it need to be ruled out before pursuing any elective cosmetic surgery. You should consult with the gastroenterologist.

There are many reasons why your liver enzymes may be elevated. Your best course of action: seek consultation ASAP with your family practitioner, an internist, or a gastroenterologist specialist. I would recommend Silymarin as a natural way to bring down elevated liver function tests, along with avoiding Tylenol and alcohol.  Ruling out hepatitis can be done with a blood test.  If you are on other medications, you should let your doctor know about these tests.  Be aware that patients with certain detoxification pathway problems are more likely to become ill with silicone implants, so saline implants might be advisable.
