Dear Demetra99, We recommend stopping all herbal medications for 2 weeks before and 1 week after surgery. You should double check with your surgeon to see what their recommendations are. Good Luck!
Thank you for your question. It is ultimately up to your surgeon to determine what you should stop taking prior to your procedure. He or she will most likely give you a list of medications and supplements that they require you to stop taking for a specified amount of time leading up to and following your procedure. I recommend to my patients that they stop taking all herbal supplements and vitamins 2 weeks prior to surgery and do not begin taking them again until 1 week after surgery.
he actually be checking with your own surgeon to see what compounds are allowed and what is not. Since the true affect of most of the supplements are not really known in medicine, it is our policy in our practice to ask patients to stop all unnecessary supplements at least 2 weeks before surgery.

This means more or less of a medicine may be in your body than intended. It is at least worth a discussion w/your surgeon for the final answer. Usually if it is discontinued ,that is done 1 week before surgery.
