How long should I wait to smoke after a breast reduction?

The risks and effects of smoking prior to and during recovery after plastic surgery are significant. I instruct my patients to avoid smoking for at least 6 weeks after surgery or longer if wounds develop.  Smoking restricts the blood flow to your skin for the wounds to heal which can cause skin necrosis, infection and other post-operative complications.  The effects of marijuana are 10 times greater than nicotine.  Call your plastic surgeon for your instructions and possible alternatives to help you deal with your stress.
