Can I use the LLLT device IRestore, etc after my hair transplant surgery?

Question

Can i use the LLLT device,IRestore, etc after my hair transplant surgery? Will it help promote faster healing and how long after the surgery can i start using it? I dont want to take any pills or other meds with side effects, so this LLLT seems to be a safe alternative to strenghthen and grow the hair. thanks

The effectiveness of lasers is not clear and it is not normally recommended after surgery.  If you are concerned about your progress, it is best to contact your doctor.

Yes, you can definitely use it soon after surgery.  In fact, using even a week or less after surgery should be fine.  LLLT is beneficial both for short term recovery and for long-term prevention of continued hair loss.  This is my go-to technology in men not wanting to take medications such as Propecia.  I use the Capillus device, I can't give you too many details about the IRestore.  Good luck!

In short, yes LLLT is safe to use following hair transplant surgery. This technology has been used extensively in the physical therapy realm and has been shown to improve circulation and healing when used elsewhere in the body. LLLT has recently been applied to help with hair growth. While early studies are promising, its true effectiveness remains to be determined. Rogaine is applied topically to the scalp and is generally very well tolerated. I recommend discussing with you hair transplant surgeon about the use of Rogaine to maximize your hair restoration efforts.

Every Hair Restoration plastic surgeon has different post op care instructions.  the low level laser is usually fine after surgery but check with your doctor when he or she would like you to start.  I don't think it improves healing but I feel it is helpful in maintaining hair and growth.  I am also a firm believer in Minoxidil post op.  Good Luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton Florida.

Yes, the LLLT therapy will help you in the wound healing of the recipient and donor areas. We did a study 12-13 years ago using LLLT after hair restoration and we noticed in the donor area: decrease of the inflammation, redness and discomfort. The recipient area showed less redness, less inflammation and less scab formation. I will suggest you to contact your doctor for his/her opinion.
