I am getting micro-needling PRP. Is it normal that is hurts so badly and brings tears?

I am getting micro-needling PRP. After the treatment they do a needle with what is left over blood. It really hurts going in...does not sting but feels like the needle goes so deep it hurts so bad I dread it and it brings tears. Is is normal for that to hurt so badly

I recommend following up with your practitioner. Discomfort can be controlled with just topical numbing cream. I always combine microneedling with prp and lasers to get the best outcomes. We do treatments every 3-6 weeks. Best, Dr. Emer

Microneedling with PRP definitely isn't like a relaxing facial and it can tend to sting and burn a little during the procedure.  It shouldn't feel as painful as you're describing it though.  I always have my patients put on a topical numbing cream before the treatment.  I advise my patients to keep the numbing cream on for at least 45 minutes before we start the microneedling with PRP.  The numbing cream I use has a mixture of Benzocaine, Lidocaine and Tetracaine and it greatly reduces any pain associated with the treatment.  I would recommend that you ask for a topical numbing cream similar to the one I use to be applied to your skin at least 45 minutes before your procedure.  You could also start taking Arnica pellets the day of your procedure.  Hopefully that helps to substantially reduce the pain during your next treatment!
