What would be the laser of choice for my hair removal case (Cutera Xeo OR Alexandrite Laser by Candella)?

This needs an in-person evaluation. Diode, alexandrite and yag lasers work best for hair removal. Keep in mind, it will take a series of treatments. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a laser hair removal expert. Best, Dr. Emer

The Xeo Cutera has been extremely reliable in my practice.  It offers the versatility of several different wavelengths (Alex, Diode and Nd:Yag) depending on skin type and hair color.  The laser automatically suggests a certain energy based on several factors, but an experienced practitioner should not follow these settings blindly in order to make sure patients get results without the risk of side effects.  Risks of using the wrong laser hair removal settings include burns, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation which can be devastating.  A series of treatments at 6 week intervals is recommended. Results are usually obvious after even just the first or second session.

We recommend finding an experienced and reputable provider in your area with updated equipment.  A consistent overlapping technique is the key to avoiding patchiness in LHR.   Experience, calibration and power of the laser are important for a safe, comfortable and effective treatment.  Find out what laser they will use and if it is under a maintenance contract.  If their laser isn’t calibrated on a regular basis or is underpowered, your treatment may be painful or inefficient. After a series of 6-8 initial treatments, you may need a touch up every 3-5 years.
