Is 500-600cc too big for 5ft, 110lbs?

Dear Amy,   Front and side view pictures of your breasts would have been very helpful. You did not provide your chest circumference measurement in inches, which is critical for the correct selection of your breasts implants.  In any event, based on your height, weight  , narrow chest  description and present implants size, I would guess that you are currently, 32 full B cup size. To become 32 small D cup size, assuming that you are symmetrical, you will need implants with volume of 425 cc and 500 cc.    Obviously, different measurements of your chest and breasts circumference will require different implants' size.  Additionally, when you go significantly bigger  with your implants size, you will have to have capsulotomy (scar release) , in order to create more room for the larger implants.   Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons , who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with nice cleavage, perky, symmetrical and natural looking.                         Best of luck,                                                    Dr Widder         

You are considering large and heavy implants. Please let your surgeon guide you to the size that will fit your frame and tissues best. You might want to go back to your surgeon and ask to try on an additional 250 to 350 cc implants to see how they look and feel.

Ultimately, careful communication of your goals (in my practice I prefer the use of goal pictures, direct examination/communication in front of a full-length mirror, and computer imaging) will be critical.  





Generally speaking, patients undergoing revisionary breast surgery should understand that there may be many variables besides breast implant volume that come into play when determining optimal  breast implant selection during revisionary breast surgery.  For example, adjustment of the breast implant capsules may be necessary; this adjustment may be a factor when it comes to selection of appropriate breast implant size/profile.   Furthermore, there may be a different "look" achieved with the same volume silicone versus saline breast implants. Lots to factors to consider...











Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering revisionary breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is:











1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. ***Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work.











2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. 



In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. For example, I have found that the use of words such as “natural or fake look” or "C or D cup” etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful.



Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Again, the use of computer imaging has been very helpful during the communication process, in our practice.











3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery, after the use of temporary intraoperative sizers.  Personally, I find it most beneficial to have a wide range of breast implant types, sizes, and profiles available.

Dr. Pousti is correct in that only an in-person exam can best help you with your decision.  However, at 5 feet tall, and not over-weight, my experience tells me that 500-600 cc is likely too big for you.  There are a couple of issues here.  First off, at 5 feet tall you probably have a short chest and short waist-line.  Breasts that are too large for your particular frame will then make you look overweight even though you are not.  The second issue is the high profile implants.  The high profile implants provide more volume in a "package" with a lesser diameter than lower profile implants.  So in women with a narrow chest wall, it can allow the surgeon to give you more volume than lesser profile implants.  However there is a trade-off (there are ALWAYS trade-offs).  The take-off (where the breast "starts") is often higher than "normal".  This is especially a problem in someone who is only 5 feet tall.  So the breast looks "done".  And from what you have said, that is not what you want.I cannot make any absolute suggestions here.  But I would recommend that you seek out a few other consultations.  In particular find someone who will help "size" you.  That means helping you determine the size you find acceptable by adding inserts to your bra and allowing you to determine what is best for you.Good luck.
