Dr.Terranova was very informative of the procedure and also explained what results to expect. I'm 37 yrs. old that has had 2 c-sections and splenectomy so I was concerned about scar tissue. He set my mind at ease and made my scarring minimal. I went in for my follow-up visit and I had some questions about my swelling prior to me asking my questions he addressed them. I'm very pleased with my results even with swelling post op 4 weeks. Oh and the staff is amazing as well.
Dr. Terranova is an expert. He gave me all of the pros & cons of my surgery and not only allowed me to make an informed decision, but he also allowed me to make choices for my surgery outside of his recommendation. He valued my input and discussed the possible results/side effects. I chose over the muscle implants (Bc I am in the fitness industry & didn’t want the implants to buldge when I performed planks & pushups) and we went “under the flap” instead of through my areola. I trusted him to make me the size he thought looked best, and he chose a little larger than I had first thought I wanted. They’re PERFECT! I’m so glad I trusted him, Bc I couldn’t be happier! I’m a D/DD, and they look so natural & finally balanced. If you’re in Charleston, go to Dr. Terranova. You’ll save money compared to Mt. Pleasant, and you’ll feel valued and cared for as a patient.
After having my 3. children my stomach was just gross, it actually hung off my body. My kids called it "the flap" lol! Since we were done having babys my husband and I both decided to have a full tummy tuck. We met with several plastic surgons, when we met with Dr. Terranova we knew he was the riggt one to do the procedure. He was so very Thorough and made us feel very comfortable and confident we chose him. He had his work cut out for him will all the skin and muscle repair he had to do. He personally called and checked on me and was right there if I needed anything, him personally. We have been thrilled with everything and the flat stomach and hips I thought I would never see again he gave me! The scar, yes the scar is long however he did such an amazing job it's such a fine line it's hardly noticeable. He is an amazing sugon who actually cares for each of his patients. I would recommend him to everyone, and I will most definitely use him for any other cosmetic procedures I decide to do in the future! I do not personally have a before photo without my stomach being covered so here is one with my shirt on but you can see I look pregnant from all the skin... and I am only a month and 1/2 post op and it takes up to 4 to 6 months to heal but I am already thrilled with the results I already have! I won't lie the first week after the sugery is rough! But Dr. Terranova prescribes medication to keep you as comfortable as possible. The seconed picture is 4 weeks after my sugery, and it is looking better and better every day! I am so happy and so much more confident!
Since High School I have struggled with Gynecomastia but never knew what to do about it. I would hit the gym really hard lose weight but still nothing. Dr William Terranova was very helpful with me making the right decision. As I go in next week for another evaluation I will keep everyone posted.
I'buonly 13 days post op right now, but in love with my new belly already! I'm still swelling considerably, but can't wait to r see the end result. Dr. Terranova has been so nice and professional and he knows his stuff. :) After seeing some belly buttons on real self I was little worried about that part but he had a great technique and it looks perfect as of now. My incision line is soo fine and thin, it's going to scar very well. I recommend Dr. Terranova to anyone considering a surgeon in my area!
I hope by the end of all this I will be able to lose my spare tire look and feel more comfortable in my own body. I'm currently 5'8 and weigh just about 200lbs. My surgery is July 10 and just had my pre op appointment yesterday. I'm having a panni and circumferential liposuction. I had originally gone in wanting a tummy tuck but I am very comfortable in following the dr's suggestion! I'm starting to get nervous, but I have an amazing husband who is taking time off work to help me out. I will try upload some before pictures soon! Updated on 11 Jul 2014: So I had my surgery yesterday at 8am ET. I don't remember anything past my IV until I was at home in my recliner. I mean NOTHING. I have one drain in. Right now 2 of the lipo incisions and bleeding/oozing a good amount so it was a long night changing the gauze and maxi pads I had put against them. My pain level is tolerable with the meds. My back is the most painful thing from the lipo.i didn't even know he was going to do lipo on my back, I thought just love handles and abdomen, but I'm happy he did! I don't have a binder on yet. That will go in at my post op appt on Tuesday. They want me to shower Saturday and remove all bandages. I will probably cover my incision with tape after that. I'm rambling I know. My kids have been sweet bringing me flowers and occasional piece of toast.but my husband has been soooo helpful and supportive. He has dealt with all my bloody yucky stuff that makes me lightheaded. Ok well I added a pic of before and about 4 hours after surgery. I know I will be swelling up soon like crazy but I want to get a pic right away. My scar is still covered though so I haven't seen the whole thing
I had scar revision done by Dr. Terranova. I had a surgical nightmare from a medical situation I had. Due to a Dr's serious errors and disregard for my well being, what was suppose to be only one surgery turned into 14 surgery's and over three years of illness and near death. My stomach was a complete mess caused by the many surgery's and illness. I wanted it fixed, but I didn't have much hope. I chose Dr. Terranova because in my research I noticed the tummy tucks he had done, and posted pics on his web site, were done extremely well. I knew I had to go to the best due to my situation. Dr. Terranova did not disappoint, in fact, I am extremely happy. Not only do I have a rejuvenated stomach, he gave me my self esteem back. I feel so good now that it makes some of the internal pain and sadness go away. I no longer have to see the damage on the outside, which caused me pain on the inside. I cannot thank Dr. Terranova enough. I plan to be a regular patient.
Ok so March of 2012, I had circumferential tumescent lipo done to my full abdominal trunk. Because of the stretch marks below my navel from my pregnancy six years ago, my doctor told me that I would have loose skin in that area after the fat was removed. Don't get me wrong, I love, love, love the results of my lipo and I went on to get breast augmentation in June of 2012 (you can check for both reviews underneath my profile) but this loose skin has to go. Everyone says that it is not a big deal and it's all in my head but it matters to me and now is the time to do something about it. Initially I wanted a tummy tuck but my doctor advised against it since I do want more children in the far future. He said the panniculectomy would be the better choice as it would excise my loose skin that I am worried about. Since my initial lipo, I have been going to the gym faithfully and I have managed to lose about 20 pounds more. This along with my new boobs have really motivated me to have the best body yet. I go out of the country to Jamaica a lot so it feels really good to be able to wear my sexy clothes and finally not feel self-conscious. My doctor said that he would further smooth out the top of my abdomen as well. Lastly, I have 2nd boobs as I like to call them, that stored fat between your underarms and those have got to go too! My PS says that it is actually breast tissue so it will have to be lipo'd out as well. Surgery is in exactly two days and I can't wait to smell the welcoming frangrance of black permanent marker. I trust Dr. Terranova with everything as he is very honest and knowledgeable about his work. I will add a picture in a few. Wish me luck! Updated on 13 Apr 2013: Today is day 2 post op and I am feeling very good. I have even weaned myself off of my narcotics. Two days ago.....ehhh was very painful. The day before my surgery, I received a call to say that my doctor was going to throw in doing my back and bra line on the house! I broke into tears because this was an area I had been going back and forth on and had decided not to. I was very grateful that Dr. Terranova thought that much of me to do it for me. Thinking of it now is still bringing tears to my eyes... Back to the story: I arrived at about 8am where I was given my pre-surgery meds. Dr. Terranova then came in with those magic markers I have come to love so much. After I was drawn on, I was led to the surgical room where I got my happy juice and was out like a light. I woke up in substantial pain, but since I am a vet at this, I had packed 2 percocets and a fruit cup in my purse which I wolfed down. All I remember is getting home and passing out in my bed. When I awoke again, the pain was still there but I just stayed on my pain medicine and took it easy. I did get up and walk around every hour to reduce blood clots. I was bummed that I couldn't see anything due to my being bandaged well but I didn't mind waiting. Dr. Terranova called me and said that I could take my bandages off or wait til the next day (today) to remove my bandages and shower. I chose to do the latter especially when I thought about how it hurts to peel all of that surgical tape off. Updated on 13 Apr 2013: Day 2 Post Op:Took my bandages off and finally got a shower. Yayyyyy! My PS did a damn good job if I must say so. My panniculectomy stitches are to the very bottom of my stomach and I can only visibly see them on the side of my hips. I am feeling great today. No more narcotics for me, just Aleve during the day and Excedrin PM at night. My stomach looks as though I am six months pregnant :( but I know that is temporary. I hope it goes down fast as summer is fastly approaching. My back looks great! No more bra fat!! Can't wait to wear backless shirts and fitted tops now. My thighs even look tightened and lifted a bit but that could be all in my head. Ive posted pics. Tuesday is my post op apt so i'll be back to update then :) Updated on 13 Apr 2013: I also forgot to say that I put on my compression garment from my previous surgery and this has been a huge help. I can get up and move around without pain now. I will be getting fit for my new compression garment at my appointment on Tuesday Updated on 18 Apr 2013: So I am 1 week post op and I am so swollen! I am a bit down in the dumps and nervous. I am going out of town in two weeks and while I know I'm not going to be 100%, I wasn't expecting to have a muffin top. I know I still have 2 weeks and a lot can happen until then so I'm really hoping that my swelling subsides by then. Anyhoo, enough of the [RS bleep] fit, I have got back in the gym. I'm taking it easy and using pain as my guide. I cut my cardio from 1 hour to 30 minutes and my weight lifting is the same but I use weights under 10 lbs for my upper body. Gradually I will build myself up to where I was. My diet is low sodium and I am drinking a lot of water and green tea. Today I got fitted for my new compression garment and I was reassured that swelling peaks at about a week then goes down so I will start seeing results next week. I am really surprised with how easy I am snapping back and getting back into the groove. I am now 100% pills free. I take absolutely nothing, not even my Aleve. Welp! I'll be back in a week. Enjoy the pics :(
I've always known that something was wrong with my breasts. They always looked different than my peers and after I gave birth to my son, I never got that engorged look that I so desperately coveted. I even had to see a lactation nurse in order to learn techniques to make my milk come in to be able to nurse my baby. Fast forward 5 years later and it's finally time to do something about it! A little background information is I am 27 years old. 5'6, 175 lbs and I have one child whom I also breast fed. The beginning of this year is when I made the first step to find the right doctor who could do something about my breast. I initially thought that they were just severely saggy. However, after consulting with the first doctor, I was told that I had tuberous breast deformity and that he would augment me by placing the implant subglandular in conjunction with a lift. I knew I wanted a sub-muscular placement instead so I went on and got a second opinion with another plastic surgeon. This is where I found Dr. Terranova. After a thorough examination, Dr. Terranova told me that I do NOT need a lift, instead he needs to lower my breast crease. He said that I could use a nice size implant because I have wide shoulders and my height/weight allows it. He was the polar opposite of my first consultation. He answered every question and took his time with me explaining things. He even let me come back and answered more questions face to face. I was such at ease and impressed with him that I first scheduled him to do my tumescent liposuction of my whole abdomen 3 weeks later! (You can find my story and profile (with pics) on that under my profile). He did an amazing job with my lipo and now that I am recovered from that, it is time for me to get my girls.! I wanted to get my breast augmented back in March with my lipo but I decided to wait until June because my son would be out of school and I could take my 6 weeks off fromwork to take him to Jamaica to visit family and have fun in the sun! Yay! So I am so excited about tomorrow! My presciptions are filled, my bras have been purchased, I have cleaned my house from top to bottom, went grocery shopping and prepped my bedroom to accomodate me post-op. We have decided to do the peri-areolar incision, sub-muscular replacement and sillicone implants. But the only thing is that I am on the fence about the CCs I want. I started off with 550 CCs but I liked the 625-650 CCs when I tried on the sizers. My dilemma is that I know that these are large implants and I have read that they increase my chances of bottoming out and thinning out of my tissues. However, I am not a slender girl. I love going to the gym so I have a muscular build with broad shoulders. If my size can accomodate my implants and look natural/nice on me then I have no problem with a larger implant. I am driving myself crazy looking for pics of girls with 650cc implants and reading about larger implants. I can't wait to get off of work, go home and take my Ativan so I can chill out! Tomorrow morning, I am just going to tell Dr. Terranova to make me as big as he can while keeping a natural profile. I totally trust him and I know that he will once again give me wonderful results. Right now I am a 36B and my goal is to be a 36D. Wish me luck, I'll check back in tomorrow after surgery! Updated on 28 Jun 2012: Ok, it's the evening of my surgery and I'm just starting to feel somewhat ok. I got to Dr. Terranova's office at 8am and from there his nurse gave me my Zantac, Ativan and then had me change into a robe. She then took my vitals and Dr. Terranova came in to mark me up. I was taken to the OR room, hooked up with an IV and the next thing I know, I woke up in excruciating pain! So this is what it feels like when your breast are engorged?? Good grief! I could not wait to get home and pop my meds. It hurts to sit up in bed and my breasts are so tight. So tight that I haven't looked at them. I did put my nipple rings back in but as far as getting up, undoing my bra and staring in the mirror.....ehhhh not today. I get tired quick but they look great from what I can see. Dr.Terranova called me around 6:30pm and told me he actually did 650cc Sillicone implant (Yayyyy!) submuscular with the areolar incision. I didnt think he could fit all of that through my nipples but he did. Oh and they are also moderate plus so I know they will look great. Now the weight begins for them to drop. I leave to go on my trip to Jamaica next thursday (7/5/12) and I'm hoping they dont look too tell-tale in a bathing suit. But they are actually lower than I though they would be, IDK if its due to the Bandeau or what. They also arent as big as i thought they would be but as long as I'm in a D cup, I dont care :) Anyhoo, I have my post-op appointment next Tuesday to get checked out for my trip. I'll try to post more pics tomorrow although I hear the second day is the worse. If I am feeling crappy, I'll definitely do it on Saturday. See ya later! Updated on 29 Jun 2012: Day 1 post-op. I was bracing myself for the worse pain ever because I heard that the second day is the worse. Actually I feel better today than I did yesterday. I've been up being active and moving my arms gently which has really helped with my pain. My doctor called again this morning to check up on me. He gave me further guidance about when I can bathe, be active, remove my bandages etc. Hopefull tomorrow gets even better. I've posted my pre-op pics without the bra Updated on 2 Jul 2012: Day 4 post-op and I am really feeling like myself again! I was bracing myself for the second and third day but I had little to no pain. I went out for a walk and even ran a few errands and still no soreness or pain. I've weaned myself off of my narcotics; in fact this morning I slept in 3 hours past the time I normally take them and I awoke to no pain. I also have very little bruising which I am grateful for. I am glad that for the first 2 days I just relaxed in bed and did absolutely nothing. I think this may have something to do with my no pain rate. My breast are still high and tight and I want to burn this bandeau along with my old bras but I know that I must wear it for a reason so I have to suck it up. I really haven't seen much change to my breast thus far and maybe this is due to me looking at them everyday. I clean my incisions twice a day, place Neosporin on them, then cover them up with either gauze or a maxi-pad. Next I put on my sports bra and the horrid bandeau. My swelling around my stomach is going down too. Thank God. Tomorrow is my first post-op appointment with my doctor. I'm anxious to see what he says. I am going to ask him about massaging them. I hear that helps them to drop.
Greetings! I am 27 years old with a 4 year old son who absolutely ravished my body during pregnancy. I was a size 5 before I became pregnant with him and after the 70lb weight gain, I was a size 14 after I delivered him. I have lost all but about 18 pounds and I'm ok with that being that I am older and I have more curves but my stomach has been a thorn in my side for the past 4 years. I work out 5 times a week and it won't budge anymore. So I've finally decided to do something about. From the second that I met with Dr. Terranova, I knew he was the one to perform the surgery. He was very honest and he didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. Even when I wanted to see him again (and again) he made time for me and never made me feel rushed. His staff are the absolute best as well! He is also going to do my breast augmentation in June. Initially I was going to get both procedures done at the same time but because of the post operative swelling with the lipo, I decided to split them up so my stomach could be flat and healed by bathing suit season. The areas that I am getting done are my upper&lower abdomen and flank area which is known as the whole trunk area. My surgery is tomorrow at 830am and I am so excited. I have all my medicine filled and my sweatsuit is hanging up on the door. I'll check back in tomorrow if I'm not too woozy from the meds :) Updated on 22 Mar 2012: TODAY IS THE BIG DAY!! My appointment was supposed to be at 830 this morning but I got a call yesterday and was told that it was pushed back to 915am, which isn't bad. Joan, the office manager is so sweet and she reminded me of the things that I would need to ease my comfort and I am going to share them with you guys: -Buy a large shower curtain to place underneath your sheets to catch the drainage (I bought mine from the dollar store. Large trash bags will also suffice) -Get some maxi pads and dog wee wee pads to help wrap around trunk and incisions (I also got these at the dollar store) -Come into surgery wearing dark clothes (preferably black) and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Also bring in comfy socks so your feet don't get cold. Make sure you stock your fridge with ginger ale, yogurt, mashed potatoes and oatmeal. These are little things that help with nausea and make med taking easier because it coats your stomach so you won't throw up. Well that's it for now, I'll be back later with pics and more updates :) Updated on 22 Mar 2012: Ok so its done! My appt was at 915am and at 913am, Deborah was calling my name telling me to come on back so we can get this show on the road. Yayyyyy! When me and my mom came back to the private room, I completed a few pages of final paperwork, took my meds and changed in a robe. Deborah who was knowledgeable as usual answered last minutes questions for my breast augmentation that is coming up in a couple of months. After this, Dr. Terranova came in and marked me up. Ahhh the wonderful smell of a permanent marker! When he left, the anesthesia doctor came in and introduced herself. After a bit of small talk, she escorted me to the room where dreams come true and stars are born. After I was comfortable on the table and the nurse place my leg cuffs on (to promote circulation so I dont get bloodclots) the doctor began talking to me about my time in Iraq (all the while hooking me up to sleep juice). Then I was out! I woke up with all of my clothes back on and in PAIN! Whew! Thank God I wasn't disoriented or I would have thought I was in labor!! My mom and my son came and seeing their faces calmed me down a bit. After my mother was debriefed, we were on our way home. I practically slurped down that yogurt just so my mom could give me my pain pills (let her tell it, I was acting like a dope fiend wating on her fix). After I took my meds, I fell asleep and now I'm back up updating this review. When I looked in the mirror, my stomach is swollen but its not puffy like it was before, I can already see a flat silouette. Watch out now! Updated on 23 Mar 2012: Ok, its the day after surgery and I am feeling sexy! When I sit down, my stomach doesn't roll!! Whooo hooo! I had a sleepless night but it really wasnt due to pain, I've always been a night owl. I had to make sure I kept repositioning myself in bed so that I didn't get sore on one side. I've been on top of my meds with no nausea. I had my 1st BM today so no constipation. I've been drinking lots of water and eating fiber, fruits and yogurt so maybe that has been a factor? Dr. Terranova called me today to check up on me. I have stopped leaking (the leaking wasn't as bad as I thought it would be) so he told me that I can remove my dressings and take a shower. Then he proceeded to break my heart by telling me that my newly flat stomach will get very swollen and then take 4-6 weeks to come back down. Sigh.....thank God, I decided to get this done before summer. He told me that he removed about 6000cc's. WOW. He explained that it was roughly 3 Coca Cola 2 liter bottles! Now I'm way excited to see the final outcome. My mom (who is here as my caregiver) thinks that its too early to take my dressings off and that we should wait a day or two. I'm going to try to throw an old school temper tandrum to get my way. I have to go back on Monday to get fitted for my compression garment. I'll check back in a week. Updated on 24 Mar 2012: The swelling and itching has begun!! So today my mom took off my bandages (gross and painful). She was worried that showering would reverse how fast my incisions have been healing so she suggested I do a sponge bath instead and hold off on my shower another day. I was just excited to be free of the bandages that had begun to itch me like crazy so I agreed to sponge off and wash only my "hot spots". When my bandages came off I was still happy with the results, even though I can tell that I am beginning to swell back up as Dr. Terranova warned me. My mom dabbed my incisions with witch hazel and covered them up with my son's Captain America's band-aids (he was and still is angry at us for using them all up). Afterwards, she helped me into my compression body suit that I bought from Marshalls a couple of weeks ago (remember, I don't get fit for my official one for another two days, so I bought a few to carry me over until I go back to the Doc's). Once my body suit was placed on, I felt a world of a difference! I can get around much easier and I'm not as sore. However, I started to itch even more. I combated this with a Benadryl and I feel much better now. Enjoy the new pics, I'll update in about a week or 2! Updated on 26 Jun 2012: Excuse my prolonged absence but I wanted to check back in. I am about 3 months post op and I am feeling much better. No pain and i'm loving my new contour. I'm not totally flat yet but I am getting there. Since my surgery, I have went on to lose about 15 pounds so my self-confidence has really improved. In two days I will be going back to Dr. Terranova for breast augmentation and I am so excited! I'm posting pics that I took recently while bathing suit shopping. I've been really focusing on my abs and I'm starting to see a little 6 pack surfacing. Yay me :)
There are actually a couple of different questions here. Will the presence of implants (either saline or silicone) effect your health? The answer to that is no. There is no scientific evidence that breast implants either cause or worsen autoimmune disease. Will the stress of anesthesia, surgery and recovery worsen your disease? That is a question for your treating physicians (along with your potential anesthesiologist and plastic surgeon) to consider before you proceed. This last will be very important. Best of luck.
It is too early to make any judgements. The fact that the differences that I can appreciate are minimal makes me think that in a few weeks the result will meet your expectations. Good luck.
To answer your question, no, do not attempt fat grafting at the same time as removal of the silicone. There are lots of reasons for this. However, if you are not having any problems from the injected silicone, then leave well enough alone. Assuming these injections were done some years in the past, then if you have no problems now, you likely will not in the future. Surgical removal of the injected silicone will result in significant deformities which will be difficult, if not impossible, to totally correct, even with fat grafting.
You are correct that a surgical procedure will be necessary to correct this. If by "regular" you mean flat, then yes, that can be achieved. However there will be visible scaring and it may very well take more than one stage. If you are intending to lose a significant amount of weight, then certainly wait until that has been accomplished before proceeding with surgery. Good luck.
There does appear to be some necrosis. However I cannot tell how extensive it is. You need to see your surgeon sooner rather than later. Good luck.
