Pain during SculpSure treatment. What can I do to avoid it? Oxycodone didn't help.

Question

What should I do or the doctor should do to avoid pain DURING Sculpsure treatment? I was given Oxycodone and it didn't helped at all, after 4 hours of the treatment and 5 hours of taking the medication I started to vomit as crazy and feeling horrible for the rest of the day. I had terrible pain even in 1.0 level. Am I losing the money because it is below the recommended level?

I rarely have patients with too much pain from sculpsure, ensure this was on properly.  I recommend you combine with vanquish and cellutone to get more outcome.  Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon and medical team. It is unusual to experience such significant discomfort that they cannot proceed with the treatment. Always work with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

We also offer Pronox nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for Sculpsure. Frankly most people need it! Because Pronox is self administered and very regulated, it is quite safe and clears out of your system quickly, allowing for a brief recovery in the office, after which you'll be fine to return to work or other activities. I highly recommend seeking a practice that can offer this. Very few people do well with Sculpsure without it.

I'm right there with you! Sculpsure CAN be painful. We try to keep the treatment at the "tolerable discomfort" level, but when I was myself treated, I found that I was wimpier than all the ladies in my office. I never made it past the1.0 treatment level either. All the office staff got treated so that we can appreciate what the patient experiences. (And we all had some fat we didn't like.) The good news is that you are NOT wasting your money if the levels are not at maximum. The laser is effective at all levels, perhaps marginally better as levels increase. My tummy is TIGHT! it works! 
BUT, we decided to get nitrous oxide to help those patients who wish to avoid the pain. If I get treated again, I will be laughing through it!

It is highly unusual to experience any significant pain with SculpSure that would require taking pain medications.  SculpSure is a laser that uses heat to destroy the fat cells, and in general, the procedure is tolerated well by most patients.

I have not had a patient who consistently required narcotics for a “painless” procedure. I would pick a different technique or limited areas because something is not right. Your body is telling you to pick a different technique possibly Liposuction. This is not supposed to be torture.What is your BMI? If you are a thin it is possible that Nerves on the abdominal wall are being stimulated by radiation of heat.Try something different.

At my office we offer laughing gas to anyone who is uncomfortable during the treatment. The laser uses heat at high temperatures to destroy fat and most patients do not experience pain during the treatment, however everyone's pain tolerance is different and the applicators can be adjusted if any discomfort is felt.
