It is okay to continue applying Vaseline to the area if you are only 3-4 days out.  Some physicians will recommend applying this for up to 7 days or longer.  Signs of infection include increasing pain, increasing redness that extends far beyond the edges of the wound, the skin in the area feels increasingly warm, and increasing pain.  If you are experiencing these, you should return to your physician.  You can apply make up once the skin has completely healed over the area.  Be sure to contact your physician for further direction.
