Why are consultations so expensive?

I had contacted a Dr regarding the PRP hair procedure and I wanted to set up a consultation. The office told me it would be $120 for the consultation. I understand the need to make a buck but to pay $120 is off putting

Consultations are to guarantee the physicians time and in my office the price of the consultation goes as a credit to any service.  You are paying for the doctors expertise, time and skill.  I would pay anything for someone who is an expert at a procedure that I was interested in.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Generally cosmetic surgeons charge for consultations.  This is considered normal in the business. Some may offer complimentary consultations depending on the situation.  Some may apply the consultation to the few thousand dollars worth of treatment.

Some offices charge some don't. We offer prp and do not charge for consults. Incidentally, 120 is not much considering the costs to run an office for an hour often exceeds that. But we don't charge it because we know patients are put off by it.

PRP has the potential to stimulate hair growth and may be the solution for you. If you feel you are ready for a consultation, then you should do your research to make sure the physician you choose has the potential to help you.  A physician who has an expertise at treating hair loss may very well be a bargain at $120/consult.  Best of luck.
