Hair transplant on birth mark? (photo)

Question

I have a birth mark since I was born on the left side of my head mid top to front and on the side. There use to grow hair on this birth mark (thicker than on the right hand side). However since from the age of 17/18 years old it started falling out. On the right side of my head and on the back i still have a lot of hair. still have a lot of hair. The bald spot in the picture use to be fully covered. What causes this hair loss? And can I get a transplant?

Assuming your birth mark is a benign one (there are some birth marks that need to be surgically removed due to their potential for transforming into skin cancer), hair can be transplanted safely into it, as a general rule. It looks like most of the birth mark is located in your hair-bearing area, so most of it could be potentially covered by a hair transplant. Of course, I am making some assumptions here. You need a consultation for a full evaluation.

From the photo, I understand that this birthmark could be causing you significant concern and possibly affecting your self-confidence to some extent, which is why you're considering a hair transplant to cover it.
However, a worst-case scenario that you might want to consider is the possibility of the birthmark developing into skin cancer. Having hair above it could make cancer monitoring very challenging.
I would recommend consulting with both a dermatologist and a plastic surgeon to obtain their opinions on this matter, as it is not a typical case. I hope this helps.
