I am a 48 yr old female. I have hundreds of lipomas on my waist, arms, legs, head. My father had hundreds and hundreds removed from early 40's to death 78. Who do I see for this, some are very painful
Answer: You have choices Lipoma removal is typically a simple procedure and many general and sub-specialty surgeons are trained in it. Patients are typically referred to General surgeons and plastic surgeons for this. Some lipomas that are at cosmetically sensitive locations (face etc) should be removed by plastic surgeons for best cosmetic outcome. Multiple lipomas may need to be planned over multiple stages. Lastly, some lipomas at places like hands and feet, can be very close to the tendons etc, and should be addressed by plastic surgeons for adequate coverage of the tendons after the surgery. Hope this helps. Wish you the best.

Answer: #Lipoma - treatment and removal for Lipoma? Many different types of surgeons can address your multiple lipomas - depending on how many there are (and how many you want removed at one time) you may want to consider having them removed under anesthesia.A board-certified plastic surgeon would be a good choice to coordinate such a procedure. Ask your internist for a referral or take a look at plasticsurgery dot org to find someone near you.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100

Answer: Who treats lipomas Lipomas can be removed by a surgical dermatologist in many cases. If the lipomas are excessively large or in places where they can be attached to other things (ligaments, muscles, etc.) sometimes you have to see a general surgeon for some of those and go under twilight anesthesia. Best to start with a surgical dermatologist. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion.
