Thank you for your question. Your concern is a very common one. This is changed by removing the extra bone and cartilage responsible for the "bump" you notice on your profile view. If there are other cosmeitc changes you would like addressed with your nose, they could be taken care of at the same time. See a rhinoplasty specialist who can guide you through the process of getting the nose you are hoping for. All the best!
The profile can be improved and the hump can be addressed with a closed rhinoplasty.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
... but for a couple of reasons you need to pay attention to other features of your nose when planning your rhinoplasty and getting an agreement from your surgeon that he will and can make the additional changes.Look at the video link below, where I made a simulation of a proposed rhinoplasty on your nose. I removed the bump, straightening the bridge of you nose. However, when you remove a bump, it usually makes the nose *appear* longer than it was, so it's important to raise the tip a small amount, so the nose doesn't look too long after surgery. Then, your nose is a little strong *above* the bump, at the level of the black arrow, so that area needs to be reduced as well, or your nose might get a bit of an impression of a "Roman" statue nose, where your profile slides from your forehead down onto the nose without the little dip at the top of the nose, just below the eyebrows, which dip we usually think is an attractive feature. In the animation, you'll see how in the "after" picture, I reduced the nose *above* the bump, by the arrow.Reducing the top of the nose like that, and elevating the tip, are changes that not every plastic surgeon can create, so you must see before and after photos, and see whether you think you are communicating with perfect accuracy when you visit your surgeon.
The answer is YES, your nasal "bridge" can be straightened, but more important than the single change you request is adjustment of shape and size of your nose so that it becomes beautiful and enhances your entire face. A smaller, finer nose with a more delicate tip will visually enlarge your eyes and lips, feminizing your appearance and promoting your allure.
Dear kay_m_rocksReduction and straightening of the nasal bridge is a basic part of most rhinoplasties. It can be done with good precision and with reliable and consistent outcome. Based on the profile picture you have shared you would be a good surgical candidate. You should seek consultation with experienced and Board certified Plastic Surgeon so you can make an informed decision.
Usually, prominent nasalbridges and humps can be improved to achieve a better cosmetic result with arhinoplasty. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon with extensive nasalsurgery experience who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeryand ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery(ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (ENT) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California
Thank you for the question and photo. The area of concern is often referred to as a dorsal hump. This is a common concern for many seeking nose shaping. The area can be made more straight by reducing the bone and cartilage that is in that area. How this is performed will be based on the plastic surgeon that you end up choosing. He or she may also discuss performing a chin augmentation procedure to better align your chin and nose projection and improve your profile. All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
Yes, it is possible to straighten the nasal bridge with a rhinoplasty procedure. Closed rhinoplasty approach can address removal of the bony and cartilaginous dorsal hump. For many examples of dorsal hump removal, please see the link below
From the attached photo, your nose has a dorsal hump that would be reduced with a Closed Rhinoplasty. I also wanted to point out that the photo shows a very weak chin. A weak chin makes the nose appear larger than it really is. Chin Augmentation with a Chin Implant can provide harmony and balance to the entire lower face. Hope this helps.
Dear Kay_m_rocks, Rhinoplasty surgery would allow you to straighten the bridge of your nose allowing a more refined profile while still keeping a nice balance to your natural facial aesthetics. During consultation digital imaging may be performed to show you the proposed surgical results. Once you decide on these results then your surgeon can discuss what needs to be done surgically to attain the desired result. You may also want to consider a small chin augmentation to bring a nice balance to your profile. Rhinoplasty is one of the most rewarding procedures for both patient and surgeon alike. Your wide tip and nasal base can be reduced with rhinoplasty surgery. You describe very soft cartilages; your inverted V deformity with a narrow mid-nose and the deep alar creases can be improved with cartilage grafts.
A rhinoplasty and breast augmentation can be performed at the same time with one recovery period. The rhinoplasty procedure is technically the more difficult one, so choose your rhinoplasty surgeon very wisely. Digital computer imaging will be helpful in understanding what can be a...
Trauma to the cartilage is more difficult to manage than bone. Bone can usually be reset or "popped" out into position. Your siutuation sounds as if the cartilage tore loose from the nasal bones, causing them to collapse. The repair usually requires suturing and spreader grafts...
