Had a porcelain crown placed over #8 following a root canal retreatment. Went to the lab to have a custom shade & was very pleased with the results at the dentist's office. After going home & seeing it in natural light, I'm not so pleased with it anymore. The top of the tooth is darker than the rest...I think the shade is matched perfectly but I think it appears dark because of the tooth underneath it. Can anything be done about this?

Unfortunately, the only real option is a new crown, but the shade underneath of the remaining tooth ("stump") shade and choice of material is most important to mask the darkness and be able to match the adjacent teeth.
