I am on Rogaine 12 sprays once daily for treatment of chronic telogen effluvium. Minimal improvement of Hair loss. I am 36 years old, I want to have pregnancy. How to stop Rogaine before pregnancy?

I would suggest to stop using Rogaine as you’re considering conceiving or when you miss your first period. It might result in shedding of hair but it is not the case with everyone and the hair grows during pregnancy as well.

Generally speaking, if one is now starting to try to conceive, Rogaine should be stopped. In some cases, Rogaine can be stopped once the first period is missed but that should only be done on a case by case basis and under consultation with a physician. For most women, Rogaine should be stopped 2 weeks before one starts trying. There can be hair loss once the  Rogaine is stoppped but often the hair regrows during pregnancy. One should speak to their physician to ensure that stores of iron, vitamin D are adequate heading into pregnancy and to be sure to start folic acid well ahead of time.

Minoxidil should not be used in pregnancy. Prior to pregnancy minoxidil can be stopped. There is no need to taper off minoxidil slowly.

There is no good way to withdraw the drug minoxidil other than stop it and hope that you didn't develop minoxidil dependent hair
