Are my scars healing properly? I currently use silicone strips to help with any hypertrophic scarring, but they still seem dark. Is this normal? Attached is both my left and right scar to date

Thank you for your question. It is important to keep in mind that everyone scars/heals differently. With that being said, it does appear that your scars are healing properly. It can take up to a year for scars to fully heal. I would recommend reaching out to your plastic surgeon regarding creams/treatments for scar care. Good luck!

Everybody is different when it comes to scar healing. You will also heal differently as you age. I don't see anything wrong with these based solely on the pictures you have submitted. You can talk to your surgeon, or possibly also the office nurse.

These scars are maturing and the use of silicone can help. It is important to massage the scars as well as using the silicone and it can take 12-18 months for these scars to fade.

There is a tremendous amount of variation from one patient to the next with regard to wound healing.  The EARLIEST we see mature scars is 6 months, and it may take as long as a year.  Treatment with a silicone gel product may speed up the process.  You may want to ask your Plastic Surgeon about it.   Good Luck.
