How soon after surgery can I resume omega 3/anti-inflammatory supplements?

Question

I'm having hairline lowering surgery next week and stopped taking cod liver oil and curcumin 2 weeks prior to the surgery date - I know that they're blood thinners. My question is how soon after surgery can I resume them? I've come across published studies attesting to the benefits of omega 3 supplementation throughout the perioperative period and curcumin has been shown very effective at reducing post-surgical pain. Would there be any consequences in resuming taking them 1 day post-surgery?

Check with your doctor on when or what to take after surgery.  Each doctor has their own opinions.  It is always a good idea to keep your doctor in the loop.

At look natural hair transplants we require our patients to stop these type of supplements 1 week prior to surgery and they can restart them 3 days after surgery.  Every doctor is different with their recommendations but we feel its most important to be safe and avoid any risks that we can.  Be safe!

Be sure to check with your own surgeon about advice on reatarting supplements. They are putting everthing into helping you change the way you look. A few days after is likely fine - but you should go with your surgeon's advice regardless of what anyone posts.

You usually can resume all of your medications once the risk of bleeding is over, unless you are on steroids.

It depends on the doctor but at our clinic the client can start omega three after a couple of days.  They can also return to their normal hair care routine after three weeks.

You can restart in one week after surgery. Technically you can start in two days but I like to be overly cautious.

The reason most surgeons, myself included,  do not want people taking anti-inflammatory or dietary supplements is that many such products  can cause increased bleeding during surgery. I have found that hairline lowering surgery really has little bleeding since there is a tight wound closure and when  tumescent anesthesia is used. Check with your surgeon as to when you can resume taking your medications. I let my patients go back on supplements 24-36 hours after surgery
