After Implant Surgery the Tooth Next to It Started to Move with No Indication of Periodontal Diseased and It HURTS?

make an appt with your implant surgeon for follow up. For pain an antibiotic and analgesic should be prescribed

In order to give a diagnosis, an xray is needed. If your dentist is unable to help I would seek a second opinion. Please address this sooner than later.

There could be a few different issues going on. If you had a tooth removed and an implant placed, then the bite pressure may have changed when the one tooth was removed. That usually doesn't cause an infection however. After surgery many people clench their teeth more. That can cause a tooth to move, but again not usually an infection.

If the roots of the teeth in that area are close together then pressure from the implant could affect the nerve of the other tooth. It doesn't usually cause an infection, but it's not impossible.

I suggest visiting an Endodontist (root canal specialist). They can evaluate whether the nerve in the painful tooth is still healthy. It's possible if you are having that much pain, that the tooth needs a root canal.

Good Afternoon, I would suggest getting an x-ray or CBCT scan ASAP.  You need to see if the implant was placed too close /into the adjacent tooth.  I would recommend getting this done as soon as you can.  Good Luck.

Impossible to diagnose this without X-rays and exam. Seek a second opinion from an implant surgeon if your dentist cannot answer you.

It is very difficult to give you the answer, as many pieces of information is missing including an xray, but here is what comes to my mind :


The tooth next door could have been damaged long ago , perhaps when the tooth next to it ( where you have the implant now ) was diseased and/or was being worked on , but showed symptoms when irritated .

Perhaps added pressure while placement of implant caused internal pressure and swelling and caused the tooth next to it, to get irritated and therefore painful and infected.( obviously some underlying disease existed prior in the same tooth, sort of opening a can of worms for the lack of better analogy)

If infection was just in the gums and bone, it should have gone away, if you are having continuous pain, your tooth has/had bacterial issues

 infection does not travel from one tooth , or implant site to another tooth.

Perhaps  a specialist should have worked on you, if the dentist was a specialist, then you have to  get a second opinion.
