What is the best option for a smile makeover? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
As young as you are and hopefully with healthy teeth ,  I would not recommend veneers as your first and best option, but as a secondary adjunct to your treatment.

You see you have to have a good occlusion (  bite relationship between your upper and lower jaw) in order to have longevity and endurance as well as aesthetic perfection with the veneers. Also , it will be a shame to grind a perfectly healthy tooth down for its position alone if you could place it in proper alignment with orthodontic treatment.

So,  I would first evaluate your bite , and if you need braces, go with invisalign, and after completion of your orthodontic treatment veneer ONLY those teeth than need improvement in shape and shade.

Good luck

I want my gaps closed. I had to have my braces removed due to gum infection. What are my options? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
I am not certain why braces would be removed if you had good oral hygiene and regular cleaning. Do you have  any issues with bone disease or gun disease? because if you do regardless of gaps that  needs to be  addresses first and foremost before you do anything,

Second your gap is too large to close with veneers, You also seem  to be grinding your front upper and lower teeth and have other gaps . I believe some  bite issues  as well. Therefore, with the limited information, just by going off your photo ,I would recommend braces once again to get the teeth closer together and then revisit the option of veneers to completely close it , if your braces can not being the two middle teeth completely close together.

Tooth hurts while chewing after crown. Any suggestions?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
The mere fact that your tooth did not hurt before, does not mean it would have never started to hurt. By working on the tooth , the unavoidable root canal usually gets expedited .It does not mean that every one gets pain after a crown , but do  remember there was a reason why your tooth broke in the first place. May be an old silver filling , may be a large filling, may be  you clinch?

Anyway, first make sure your bite is not off, and second go see an endodontist, (a specialist for nerves /for root canal) to evaluate our tooth. Also see if you clinch and whether you should get a bite guard.

Should I have to get a crown on both my front teeth if only one tooth is broken? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Just by looking at your teeth, I can tell you have a bite issue. Your Upper teeth seem to be tilting inwards and if I am correct when you close your teeth together, there is no Free way space between your upper and lower from teeth. meaning they are all retouching when you close you bite down .

If I am correct then you are not a candidate for a veneer. The ideal situation would be to temporarily bond the tooth that is broken, then do invisaligne to straighten out all your teeth and correct your bite, then whiten your teeth first and then veneer the broken one and try to match the shade to " after" whitening color of your teeth. .  Again That's the ideal .
The most conservative one is to bond it, and even if you want to crown it, do only one. Because even if you do two, the rest of the front teeth will have a contrast in shade, so one more tooth does not help that situation .

Good luck.

Can I still change the way my permanent crowns are done if my temporary crowns were put in yesterday?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hello.

You should discuss your concerns with the dentist .Do state your concerns and ask him/ her to indicate what they are planning to do to come close to your expectations. THIS IS THE TIME to do so . The temporaries are to help you visualize the permanent solution.  Good luck

Is Dental Bonding a good short term option for me? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
There is a range of treatment. Your question was a short term result and the answer is yes, you can get short term result with bonding to close your gaps. However , no binding will increase your tooth size.

Best option is to do invisalign to close your gaps and then with the use of laser tissues contouring  reduce the gummy area, if possible then veneer the teeth for  a long term, and optimum aesthetic.

Resin ("Bonding") or porcelain veneers for front teeth that became stained from braces?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hypo calcification are a common side effect of waring braces, this is one of the reason I prefer to offer invisalign to my patients who are interested in orthodontics.

If the depth is shallow, you can get away with composite boding, however , they will stain and do not look as good  and do not last as long as porcelain veneers . If finances  can be arranged with payment plans ( as most dentists offer in their office) , I would recommend veneers.

Why do I suddenly have tooth sensitivity & what can I do about it?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Here are the reasons why teeth can be sensitive

  • patient is a clincher
  • patient is tooth grinder
  • patient has cavities
  • teeth have leaking filling
  • teeth have cracks
  • patient has gum recessions
  • patient had a recent cleaning and all the tarter and plaque is removed and so teeth are now exposed to air , and environment .
  • teeth have lost their protective enamel layer due o acid erosion in diet or medication
  • patient is undergoing medical treatment that cause such issues.
Not having x-rays and without an exam , it is impossible to pin point your issues. Do express your problem to your dentist, and perhaps get a second opinion.

Can an uncleaned tooth begin to decay under a sealed crown?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
A crown can come off  fro several reasons. You did not mention how old this particular crown is. What type of crown? all porcelain? metal? are you having periodontal issues? do you floss and have a good hygiene?
usually crowns " fell off" if  :
  • They are old and leaking
  • They have not been cemented or Bonded properly
  •  ill fitting or open margins
  • bad bite
  • patient is a clincher /grinder
So  the odor you detected, could be decay, could be bacteria due to bad hygiene or  periodontal issues, the odor of the cement or bonding agent. Your tooth cannot get decayed from your saliva, and everyone's saliva has bacteria. So unless the dentist saw decay and did not clean it out, You do not have to worry about his not washing your tooth, but you do have to worry about why did  the crown come off in the first place.

Good luck

Can an implant crown be replaced with more bulk in the back using the same abutment?

    Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
If you placed and implant , some trauma must have happened to your own  natural tooth such as :

    Infection
    bone loss
    accident
    failed root canals
    failed old crowns or fillings
    severe decay
    Bad bite
    periodontal disease

All of the above means some sort of trade off with having a healthy tooth and bone structure. Therefore, implants can only do so much. Without photos and x-rays it is impossible to give you exact answer "yes or no" . Your dentist should know best. Get a second opinion if it can be improved or not, and don't expect for it to be free . As long as the tooth looks good and fits well around the abutment, your  "likes and dislikes" ,  "is not refundable . specially there may come a time that the novelty will ware off and your tongue will quit investigating, and you'll be used to food trap and cleaning it rapidly. However,  some dentist will do it at cost , or try for an improved one if possible and charge lab fees.

    Good luck.

Caring, Knowledgeable, Follow-up - Ladera Ranch, CA

Dr. Marzvaan saved my tooth by giving me great advice. I had a decay tooth; first she fixed it and then to protect it, she placed the crown on it. I am going to go to her for several veneers. I have looked at several pictures and contacted several of her patients that had the veneers; they also said that they were very happy about their veneers as they all expressed that she is a great cosmetic dentist as well.
