After a Breast Lift is Recommendable to Do the Mammograms in the Traditional Way?

A breast lift will not affect the scheduling  of mammograms in the future. You will have more scar tissue so sometimes the radiologist may need to do different views for a complete mammogram.

A mammogram is safe for women with breast implants, and can be done in the traditional way. It is vital for breast cancer screening for women after 40 and for women with a history of breast cancer in the family. We encourage women who have not had mammograms to have one prior to surgery so their a basis of comparison to future mammograms. The mammogram should not alter the breast surgery results.

There is no reason that having a breast lift should preclude you from having a traditional mammogram on the schedule your doctor recommends.  If you have had an augmentation, an additional view would be required.  The way you are wording your question makes it sound as if your afraid that having a mammogram will cause your breasts to sag.  This will not happen. Should you have any questions, you should return to your surgeon who performed your procedure to discuss your concerns.  Best of luck to you. 

There is no reason that a standard mammogram would not be applicable in your situation.  An annual mammogram would not cause any stretching of your breast.

Patients who undergo breast lifting only will be able to undergo mammography in the traditional fashion;  if breast implants are used however, the mammographer will use a “displacement technique” in order to better visualize the breast tissue, away from the breast implants.

Mammography does not contribute to the “sagging” of breasts.  This is more likely related to time, gravity, weight gain/loss,  pregnancies, genetics…

Mammography can certainly be done after a breast lift, and should be maintained on whatever schedule your doctor thinks is good for you. They do not accelerate the aging process, I do not think that your prior mammograms caused your breasts to become more saggy more quickly. Good luck on your upcoming procedure!
