10+ years saline implants, found a pea size lump, mammogram can back clean, should I get a 2nd opinion on my breast lump?

About 3 months ago i found a lump just to the side of my nipple,about the size of a small pea. I have saline implants that are under the muscle and have had them for 10+ years with no lumps ever found until now. Went to gyno who scheduled mammo and u/s both came back fine and they said it must be my implants that im feeling. Im not understanding why now a lump is showing up and how could it be my implants? Should i get another opinion?

It is likely that the lump you have found is not related to your implants. Breast lumps can occur for a number of reasons and happen to many women. While it is good that your mammogram and ultra sound came back clean, I would suggest that you see a breast surgeon for a biopsy. This will be the best way to determine if next steps are needed.Karen Singer, M.D., P.A. Harvard Graduate Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Given your concerns, it certainly cannot hurt to obtain a 2nd opinion evaluation. I would suggest that you see a “breast surgeon” who has significant experience evaluating patients with breast masses.  Ultimately, a biopsy may be in your best interest. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question.  By all means seek a second opinion from a breast surgeon.  An ultrasound-guided biopsy is likely your best option.
