My BMI is 36. I just had a consult and the doctor I went to said I need to lose 20 pounds for him to do the surgery. When I start to lose weight it comes off my legs and my breasts and I want to keep that! I just want the tummy gone and I’m ready to pay full price cash. I want a Brazilian butt lift also. I understand the results wont be 100 percent but to me any improvement would motivate and encourage me to keep improving myself! Are there Any surgeons that would go ahead and schedule me in?
Answer: My BMI is 36. Can I have a tummy tuck? A TT is certainly doable at a BMI of 36. At a BMI of 40, my anesthetist will not put you to sleep because of the increased anesthetic risk. It's really an anesthetic problem according to the criteria in your area. I suggest seeking another another opinion from a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of if you lose the weight after the TT, you may have sagging skin again, so it is best to lose the weight before the surgery.Regarding losing more weight, Thank you for your question, and good luck.

Answer: BMI of 36 The reason that many plastic surgeons are reluctant to perform an abdominoplasty with fat transfer to the behind for patients with a BMI higher than 30 is that we understand that the risks of complications can be much higher than would be considered safe. Caution is a good thing. I'm sure that you can find someone to do your surgery independent of a high BMI, but would you want to? Sometimes I encounter patients who want procedures that I feel are poorly advised in their situation. Sometimes, I simply refuse. Sometimes, I ask "If I can't do what you want, what can I do to help you?". Wisdom and experience are good traits for a plastic surgeon. Consider what your plastic surgeon suggested, sounds like decent advice.

Answer: My BMI is 36. Are there any surgeons that would schedule me in for a tummy tuck? Most plastic surgeons suggest that you finish having children, get your weight within 10 pounds of your ideal weight and have a BMI less than 30 before undergoing an abdominoplasty with repair of the stretched out abdominal muscles and liposuction of selective areas, in order to achieve the best long term cosmetic result with the least potential complications. Following the advice of anyone who would presume to tell you what to do without seeing photos and more importantly without taking a full medical history, examining you, feeling and assessing your tissue tone, discussing your desired outcome and fully informing you about the pros and cons of each option would not be in your best interest. Find a plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with and one that you trust and listen to his or her advice. The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California.
