Is it possible for Fraxel Laser around the eyes to have a bad side effect? Thank you.

Hi,
There are risks and complications to any procedure, especially one that uses a very powerful laser technology such as Fraxel repair fractionated CO2 laser.  The success and safety of the treatment depends on BOTH the treating physician's experience, skill, and knowledge as well as the actual piece of laser equipment.
The settings for the treatment around the eyes with Fraxel repair need to be individualized based on the patient's skin, age, and past history of eye lid surgery.  The patient's corneas need to be protected with special corneal shields.
The risks include burns and scarring as well as possible corneal damage. 
The risks are extremely low when the procedure is performed properly.  The benefits of treating the eyes far outweigh the risks in most cases.

Any treatment has risks, and no one can guarantee they won’t happen, even if they hadn’t been observed previously. Pigmentation changes (darker and lighter) can occur with any resurfacing treatment. Scarring would be extremely rare with Fraxel re:store. Fraxel re:pair has a slightly higher risk of scarring than re:store. If you are elderly or just have bad elasticity in your eyelids, you have to be concerned about contraction of the skin after treatment which could pull down on the lower eyelid creating a dry eye which is not being bathed by the normal tears as they no longer sit against the eye, unable to keep it moist.
