I’m considering a chin implant and with preference of it being done under the chin rather than intra orally after reading and seeing other people’s experiences. I wanted to know would some acne( recently breaking out a bit) and facial hair ( I do shave under my chin) around and under the chin be a possible concern for infection of an implant? As That’s one of my biggest fears with this procedure among shifting, and more, etc.
Answer: Would acne around chin area be concern for possible infection? Your surgeon may prefer you to shave your chin so that the area can be fully evaluated. It is sometimes easier to determine the style and size of implant to be used without the beard hair present. I would not recommend having a chin implant placed when there are active acne sites near the incision area. Ideally, the acne would be treated prior to the surgery.

Answer: Chin implant Acne or facial hair do not affect chin implant placement or chin implant surgery, as the area is carefully prepped and the implant was placed along the mandible or jawbone, and the skin incision is hidden in the submental crease behind the chin. Implant infection is very rare, regardless. Be sure to discuss her case with the specialist and best of luck to you.

Answer: Chin Implant and Acne For a submental skin incision, the surgical site should be free of active infection and be clean shaven. As longs those two criteria are met, the risk of chin implant infection remains fairly low.

Answer: Would acne under and around chin area be a concern for possible infection of chin implant? Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. Having an acne break out would not be a contraindication for having a chin implant and should not cause the implant to become infected. Hope this helps.
