This is a 28-year-old man who came to the office requesting revision of skin grafts on both arms. He had some large tattoos in this area when he was young and foolish. After attempting multiple rounds of laser tattoo removal he says his skin began to scar from the laser and he was told that he would always have a shadow from the original tattoo.His next stop was to a local plastic surgeon to have the marks surgically excised. That surgeon told him that he would not be able to close the wounds because they were too large but instead offered to skin graft the areas. The before pictures above represent those skin grafts, but they look just like scars to the patient. I offered him complete removal of the old skin grafts and primary (direct) closure. Postoperatively, he followed a rigid support program with taping of the wounds as well as application of silicone gel. His results are shown about 8 months after I revised the skin grafts.

Arm Scar Revision

This is a 20-year-old woman who had a traumatic injury to her right forearm. During her reconstruction, skin grafts were applied, and she developed thick scars around the edges.Dr. Sterry was able to surgically remove all of the skin graft and the thickened scars. Unharmed, normal skin was then closed over the wound during her scar revision treatment. Medicinal ointments were applied for the next several weeks.

This 29-year-old woman came in asking for revision of her abdominal scar. She also noted that she could not locate her belly button since her previous emergency surgery. Her before-and-after photos are shown to the left (after photos taken 6 weeks later). Note the umbilicus has been reconstructed in addition to the scar revision. Dr. Sterry takes a custom approach to create discreet scars for all patients.

Patient came into the office presenting with multiple keloid scars along the outer cartilage of her ear. We surgically removed these keloids. She will be following up with additional visits to the office for triamcinolone injections to ensure the keloids do not return.

This is a lady who underwent a surgical removal of a skin cancer on the face in a very visible area around the eyebrow. The wound left behind was not closed by the surgeon because they felt that the patient would not benefit from a surgical scar repair. Dr. Karamanoukian in Santa Monica began a HIDEF scar protocol that includes primary surgical scar excision, multilayered skin repair with RF microneedling, laser therapy, scar modulation with Plato's Scar Serum, fractional laser, and PRP injections. In the short term, the patient used Plato's Scar serum to reduce inflammation and hypertrophy of scars.

Patient has a previous keloid directly in her Umbilicus from previous surgery. The keloid is surgically removed and replaced with full thickness skin graft. She has healed nicely post treatment with a naturally appearing umbilicus.

Patient had previously underwent a breast biopsy which was benign. Unfortunately, she developed an enlarged keloid scar after surgery. This was revised by another surgeon but resulted in an even larger and more unsightly keloid scar on her breast. She chose to undergo excision of the keloid scar with concurrent steroid injection to prevent repeat scar formation. She also used Embrace scar therapy after surgery for a period of 6-8 weeks to prevent scar tension during healing.
