Alarplasty and Weir Excision for a Wide Nose - This is a 22 year old young woman who had concerns about the size of her nose. Specifically, she was interested in narrowing the base of her nose where the nose meets the face and decreasing the flare of her nostrils. She underwent an alar base excision (Weir excision) to narrow the base of the nose and decrease her alar flare. This was done in the office under local anesthesia. She did very well after surgery with minimal bruising and swelling. At 2 months after surgery, her nose has settled nicely with maintenance of her alar narrowing, well-hidden scars, and a softening of her alar flare.

This young lady underwent alar base (nostril) reduction under local anesthesia - This 23 year old female desired to have a narrower nostril base. Dr. Repta and the patient discussed her options including her desire to minimize cost and downtime. The patient underwent an alar base reduction under local anesthesia. The patient drove herself to the office and the procedure took about 1 hour. She is shown just 1 week after her procedure with improved width of her nose at the nostril level. Although some swelling is present the results shown depict what can be accomplished quite easily under local anesthesia.

Procedure was performed under local anesthesia and tolerated very well. 6 day post-op photo displays fresh postoperative incision immediately after sutures were removed.

This involves an incision on the underside of the nostril which, when done correctly, heals very well. The width was reduced about 3.5 mm on each side to create more narrowness. This can be done in-office under local anesthetic and with minimal swelling, bruising, or pain. The important point is to avoid too much narrowness which can make the nose appear operated or unsightly. The patient is pleased with her natural result.
