A more natural lip appearance can often be achieved by carefully removing harmful foreign material from the lips. Our patient is a 28-year-old White female who came to Dr. J. Timothy Katzen because of previously injected foreign bodies in both her upper and lower lips. She was most concerned about the retained material, the scar tissue surrounding it, and the risk of granulomas and associated cancer. To treat these issues, Dr. Katzen performed silicone injection removal of the lips under general anesthesia. In this procedure, the abnormal injected material is carefully identified within the lip tissue and surgically excised. At the same time, any problematic scar tissue is also addressed to help restore a smoother contour. Lip foreign body removal is an advanced reconstructive procedure because the surgeon must remove harmful material without overly disrupting the natural architecture of the lips. These injections can cause chronic swelling, firmness, nodules, uneven shape, and visible lip distortion that cannot be corrected without surgery. By removing the foreign bodies and refining the tissue, this procedure can improve both safety and appearance. Her after photos were taken just 2 weeks after surgery and already show remarkable results, including better symmetry, softer-looking lips, and a healthier overall contour. Since healing is still in the early phase, her progress is especially impressive and should continue to improve over time.

The aging process also affects the lips, leading to a droopier appearance with time. Our lovely patient was concerned by the overhanging appearance of the central portion of her upper lip especially with smiling. Her after photos are seen very early after a upper lip reduction surgery. All incisions are on the inside of her mouth, and as you can see, there is minimal downtime.

Our beautiful patient is seen 7 months following functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery., and one month following upper lip reduction surgery. She had chronic nasal obstruction and she was dissatisfied with her crooked, wide nasal appearance and her bulbous droopy tip. The rhinoplasty techniques we used included a columella strut graft to support her tip, and a left spreader graft to aid in nasal straightening, and bilateral lateral crural strut grafts to support her congenital external nasal valve collapse, and alarplasty to narrow her nostrils. We also performed a turbinate reduction. You can see a narrower nasal appearance in her bridge tip and nostrils, and on profile, you can see that her nasal tip is no longer droopy.She also has a history of silicone injections to her lips performed elsewhere. He was dissatisfied by her overcorrected and lumpy upper lip appearance. We performed an upper lip reduction surgery in the office with local anesthetic, and one month later, you can see a natural looking upper lip appearance. She has a small bump in her right lower lip that will be addressed soon.

This wonderful patient had a V to Y upper lip advancement elsewhere and was left with redundant red lip tissue that was aesthetically and functionally problematic. We corrected the upper lip with a calculated lip reduction to restore lower face harmony. It all increased her upper tooth show.

I performed a Lower Lip Reduction for this patient who was unhappy with how big her lower lip was and how it appeared a little droopy in the side and front profiles. She also wanted to reduce how much of the pink part of her lower lip showed and while I explained that this procedure may not be able to entirely do that, the final result shows that we have achieved a much subtler shade for her lips. This procedure was performed under local anaesthetic and she is extremely happy with her results!

Our handsome 21 year old patient was self conscious about the appearance of his lower lip. He felt that it was droopy, and that there was too much pink mucous membrane showing while his mouth was open. These photos demonstrate a natural looking lower lip appearance 10 months after lower lip reduction surgery. His scar is invisible on the inside of his lower lip, and you can see less droopiness and less pink mucous membrane showing.
