This is mixed melasma in ethnic skin. This condition is extremely difficult to treat, however she responded nicely with a combination of fading creams, Vitamin A cream, Sunscreen and a series of gentle Q Switch lasers. Laser treatment of melasma has to be conservative and never aggressive. I prefer the use of picosecond lasers, or nano second long pulse lasers compared to Fraxel for this type of pigmentation. IPL should never be used as first line treatment of melasma, as this often makes pigmentation worse. Dr David Lim
