Long Term Success and Patient Education Go Hand in Hand

by

Plastic surgery expert, Dr. Kevin Sadati, has found that patient education is the key to long-term success after a cosmetic operation. With an emphasis on accurate information, Dr. Sadati published a fact sheet about rhinoplasty wound care that is designed to help patients achieve the best outcomes after their nose job is complete.

"The tips I provided will help patients have an idea of what the recovery process will be like and what will be required of them after the surgery. It helps them to, mentally prepare for the challenges that lie ahead, and it allows them to see that their hard work will be worth it," explained Dr. Sadati.

The goal with most rhinoplasty procedures is to provide aesthetic improvements for Orange County patients. This often means adjusting the size and shape of the nose, and also can mean adding implants to the chin area. In order to make the necessary adjustments, Dr. Sadati sometimes has to harvest cartilage from other portions of the body. This means that many rhinoplasty patients have several different incisions to care for after their operation is complete.

Dr. Sadati lists the following tips for patients as they care for their surgical wounds:

Use an over-the-counter saline spray to help with nasal dryness after the operation. Saline spray treatments should start 48 hours after the surgery. You should spray each nostril twice at least four times per day.

Apply a post-surgical ointment to the wounds in your ear, if necessary. The ointment should be applied three times every day until the sutures dissolve.

Apply a post-surgical ointment to the incision on the chin. Patients should gently apply this ointment up to three times every day.

Use the ointment on the tiny incision between the nostrils. Not every patient will have incisions, but those that do should use the ointment three times every day until the sutures are completely dissolved.

Try to keep the nasal splint dry during the recovery process. This will protect the healing structure of the nose and ensure the best result.

The average Newport Beach rhinoplasty patient will spend 7-10 days recovering from their operation. Patients should not be surprised if there is significant bruising and swelling on their face after the surgery. The facial structure undergoes a lot of work during this particular surgery, and bruising is quite common. Most of the bruising and swelling will be gone within three weeks, but in many cases it is entirely dependent on the individual. It may take even up to two months for certain patients. Dr. Sadati reminds his patients that it can be 12 months before they see the final result of their surgery, so patience is essential.

"Almost all of my patients find that the wait was worth it in the end. They love that their new nose looks completely natural on their face, and complements their other facial features," Dr. Sadati said with excitement.

Patients who are interested in the rhinoplasty procedure should set up a free consultation with Dr. Sadati. At this appointment, he will confirm their candidacy for this surgery as well as create a customized plan of action. The surgical plan includes pre-operative instructions, a schedule for the operation day and a set of instructions for the recovery process.
