My dentist replaced two of my old molar fillings with crowns. I had absolutely no pain with the temps., but immediately after he placed the permanent crowns, I have been in throbbing pain, unable to eat on them, ect. They throb even when I'm no eating. He told me that he looked at the x-ray several times, and feels that my nerve is far away from the crown and doesn't think that a root canal should be necessary. The pain has gotten worse, and it's been almost 5 weeks. What should I do? Allie

It sounds like there may be a gap between the bottom of the filling and the tooth. If this is the case then a new filling to seal that gap may help significantly. If there is a crack in the tooth then redoing the filling will likely not help and a crown may be needed.
In this case I agree with your dentist, extract the wisdom tooth and then 4-6 weeks after healing place the crown good luck

I do not feel as though going to the ER is necessary, unless you are in alot of pain. You should be just fine until Tuesday. To keep it clean and protected, place warm cotton pellets , moistened with Fluoride Rinse (ACT) and protect with sugarless gum.
