Effect of Light on Nasal Appearance Post Rhinoplasty

Light will always affect our physical appearance; think about the time and effort spent to light a photography studio or a film set. Make-up is used to camouflage a bad feature or highlight a physical strength; much of this has to do with lighting and shadowing. I suggest you see an experienced revision rhinoplasty specialist to discuss your present nasal appearance.

This has nothing to do with the light but rather how the different lighting situations cast shadows on your nose. The more irregularities, that exist, after Rhinoplasty the more shadows can be created in low lighting situations. High degrees of light will eliminate those. Hope this helps.

Rhinoplasty results

Rhinoplasty is indeed a game of light and shadow. Once you identify which part of your nose looks "deformed" and under what lighting conditions you can approach your surgeon for a discussion of remediation. The odd shadow can usually be corrected in the office with some injectable filler material. Start with a filler that lasts only a few months to see of you like the result before you opt for a more permanent solution.

Nose looking deformed under light

It is true that light can certainly exert an effect on the facial features, and can alter the appearance of the nose. However, from your photos, it is difficult to see what you speak of. If it really does concern you, I would recommend seeing a surgeon about it. There is no substitute for a face-to-face consultation.

Shadowing after rhinoplasty

Shadowing can point out minro asymmetries that are present in the nose before and afer surgery. Focus on how the nose looks in regular light. If something really bothers you, then discuss it with your surgeon to possibly correct it.

Rhinoplasty results appear different under some kinds of lighting.

You are observant to understand that lighting makes a difference in how things appear, including your post-rhinoplasty result. Every person who has ever had a portrait or professional photography can see that placement of the flash and supplemental flash makes a huge difference in how the photos look. So it is with surgery as well. Fortunately, you are 4 years post-op, so your nose has completely healed, and all swelling and scar tissue is settled. Your nose actually looks good, but... more

Deformed nose in different light

I'm not sure why you think your nose looks deformed. It looks fine to me. There is no question though that the type of light and direction onto your face will highlight different angles. This is normal. If you still have a particular concern you should return to your surgeon who might be able to give you a better explanation as well as suggestions for improvement.
