Ever since I can remember, I have had very large breasts and knew that I would, someday, end up getting a BR. About four years ago, I went to a very good PS in SF for a consultation. They, unfortunately, were not willing to work with me on having my insurance cover the cost. At that time, there was no way I could afford to pay out of pocket.

Flash forward to August 2015 when I decided to start taking this seriously. I booked a consultation with Dr. Gabriel Kind in San Francisco, after hearing great things. It also helped to know that he specializes in breast reconstruction for women who have had breast cancer (not something I have experience with but something I admired about him).

He was very gracious and immediately told me I am a perfect fit for a BR and that he does not see my insurance having a problem covering it, as long as they take out the minimum amount. I can't remember exactly how the measurements he provided but currently, at a 36H he told me I would get down to a C or possibly a D (either works).

My primary insurance (Cigna) just flat-out denied me, saying that BR was not covered in my plan. I went back and forth with them on this for awhile but gave up when they confirmed it would not be covered. At this point, I was very discouraged but decided to press on and see if my secondary insurance would cover it (Anthem Blue Cross). After going back and forth with the insurance specialist (?) at my PS's office we started the process of requesting the coverage from them. After about ~7 weeks I received an email, from the woman I was working with, and confirmation that Anthem would be able to cover it! This was news to my hears, seriously tears of joy on my morning commute.

I called my PS's office that day and schedule my appt for two months out, March 11th.

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this. I love my breasts, but the pain they bring me and the discomfort of trying on clothes is just too much. I have been using real self as a reference for a long time and felt that I would share my experience to hopefully help others who are considering a BR.

Stats:
Age: 24
Bra Size: 36H
Height: 5'7"
Weight: ~170 (I have been working out six days a week, gained 20lbs from a surgery in 2013*)

*Broke my tibia in December 2013 and had to have immediate surgery to correct. Was unable to walk for a month and a half. March 2014, I had another surgery to remove my hardware. Was unable to walk for 2 weeks. I gained a lot of weight due to my inability to work out for such a long time. Slowly, but surely, losing the weight. Not afraid of the pain or the surgery aspect of the BR. My only concern is bad scarring. Any tips on how to help the healing and to minimize scarring would be greatly appreciated!

Will update day of op, post-op, etc.

I can't believe that after ALL of this time the day has finally come. I had crazy dreams where I woke up and it was done. I'm slightly nervous but just want it over with! I have to be at the hospital at 10 and then surgery starts at noon. They told me it takes ~3 hours and then another two in recovery before I can get discharged. Will update with after pics tomorrow!!

Wow, that was SO much easier than expected. Experiencing little to no pain today and haven't take many Meds. I feel my back pain alleviated and could not be more happy with my decision. Doctor told me I went down to a 34c or 34d.

Feeling over the moon right now!!!
