I would like to get a breast reduction finally...

jam902
I would like to get a breast reduction finally after years of back problems as it is now starting to really affect me emotionally. I'm really self conscious about them and with bikini weather coming up I can't see myself having them this big anymore. I would like to get my insurance anthem blue shield to cover all of my costs. I would also like to have the surgery and be healed by the time I have my wedding on September 2nd. Does anyone know if that is a possibility? Will my insurance approve it fast enough? I have been to an orthopedic surgeon about knee pain I was having and when I was there I also complained about my back and so he put back exercises into my physical therapy plan to help me but it of course didn't. I'm wondering if that will help me get my insurance to cover the surgery? Does anyone have any feedback that can help me? Thank you in advance!

From the time I called to book an appointment with my regular doctor to the day I had surgery it could not have been more than two months so it's definitely possible! Although I've been left with hypertrophic scarring it is definitely worth it if you are experiencing pain. My recovery was painless and I was out and about five days after surgery. I told my doctor about my back and neck pain so she gabe me a referral. They took pictures and that was enough to prove to my insurance company that the surgery was needed. Hope this help! And good luck!

That's great to hear that the whole process only took 2 months! I'm trying to get the ball rolling but there are so many options around here I don't know who to choose!

32DDD here. Just had mine reduced Tuesday, and my pain has decreased. What I really notice, though, is how much easier it is to *breathe.*

I have been noticing more and more how hard it is to breathe with these things weighing in on my chest, so that's good to hear!

From what I've read on here it can take some time to get approved. I'd start by making an appointment with your regular doctor for back pain and when you get in there tell them you believe your breasts are the cause and ask what it takes to get it covered by insurance. Don't let them send you home with some bs about "they aren't that big" or "you'll adjust or get used to them". You're an adult and you know they are causing you problems. List the problems out before you go if you need to and bring that with you. You weigh so little that they are obviously not a result of weight fluctuation and you couldn't lose weight to try to get rid of them. I don't see how you couldn't be covered. If this doctor won't listen make it clear you're looking for another consultation. That should get you the answers you need as to what the process is for your insurance. Also, you can probably call your insurance company and ask them outright what their process is for getting it covered. Sorry if this is redundant to you or you have already gotten this advice. I haven't been brave enough to do it myself but I'm thinking in my 30's I'm going to go for it (I'm 28 and a 30G/GG, ol' righty is bigger). Best of luck! Be persistent and know what you want going in.

Honestly I think september may be pushing it for aporoval and surgery...plus there is a good deal of down time and you want your special day to be very special, right? Good luck with it all! I started with my journey in feb, had to switch doctors because unsurance issues, and got approval in April for a july 2nd date. As far as insurance I can say that having a detailed list of your journey is key. They are looking to make sure you've tried many other less evasive tactics prior to BR to make sure its not just cosmetic. Good luck!!!

I'm wondering if with a wedding, it might be pushing it, especially with time needed to adjust your dress and all the festivities. I am one week out of surgery and am still pretty tired and have what my sister (who also had this done) calls T Rex arms. I also haven't, uh, been able to shower in a week because I can't get my arms over my head. But I agree you should start the process *now* and don't let them give you bs like the previous poster noted. They will try to tell you you aren't that big or you can just strengthen your neck or shoulders or whatever. You might have to jump through some hoops (go to PT for a while, etc.). They also might tell you you are not "big enough" because some insurances don't pay attention to us more small-framed types. I appealed that one and only had 300g from each breast instead of 500.

Scroll, I was a 32DDD and have a small frame. Check my profile for my pictures. I had 307 grams from one breast and 313 from the other (that's 1.3 pounds!). I'm really happy with my results.

Surprise! I had my consultation today!

jam902
I had my consultation today with Dr. Kanter in Hampton, VA and honestly it couldn't have gone better! Everyone at the office was so friendly and helpful and Dr. Kanter really knows his stuff and was very friendly as well, he made me feel comfortable as I was SO nervous! I found it really interesting when he started measuring my boobs I've never had that done before and come to find out my left boob is a good amount larger than my right even though I've never really noticed it. He also took pictures to send to my insurance (anthem) and he told me that I am a perfect candidate for the procedure and should have no problem getting insurance to cover it!!! That was such a relief! He also said that I should be perfectly fine for my wedding and honeymoon in september!!!!! Assuming I have no complications after surgery of course but that was almost an even bigger relief than finding out my insurance should cover it. I'll be able to fit better into my wedding dress and wear a cute bikini for our honeymoon!!! You guys I left that consult grinning ear to ear and I am so happy that I finally did it and am starting this process! I hope I heat back from my insurance soon. The office is going to call me as soon as they do! That's all for now :)

I was also considerably larger on one side and never noticed it at all until the doctor pointed it out. When I saw his photos I couldn't believe it! I'm so happy that the timing will work out for you!
