Breast Lift + Implants • Unhappy Body
I met Dr. Jimmy Firouz for the first time on October 25 for my consultation. During our meeting, we discussed what I needed and what I wanted regarding size and procedure. He was friendly and had a good bedside manner. I wanted this work done for nearly a decade and was excited to proceed.
On November 15, I had a breast augmentation with 300 cc silicone implants and a circumareolar lift.
Unfortunately, just a couple of weeks out of surgery I noticed a translucent area on my sutured area. A tiny opening began to appear after a couple of days of noticing it. There was also a bit of clear puss coming out of it. The same breast was also beginning to harden and raise.
When I went to Dr. Firouz regarding this his suggestions were to apply a cream on the opening and to spend a few hours in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber outside of his facility. (Full Disclosure: Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are not cheap.)
Once the hole appeared the opening rapidly started taking over my breast. In just a matter of days, the opening grew from a tiny hole to a monstrous opening that would not stop! I went to see Dr. Firouz very often seeking his guidance. After bandaging with creams and several hours in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and noticing that none of it was working to stop the rapid opening, he finally decided to suture each side of the opening due to a recommendation from another doctor. At that point, the opening slowed and began to heal with continuous visits to hyperbaric oxygen chambers.
After months of pain and suffering, more suturing, which left a large scar and numbness above my areola, and more hyperbaric chamber time, Dr. Firouz diagnosed my right breast on May 8th – six months after sharing with him that the breast began to feel hard and look disfigured—that I might have capsular contracture.
He promised to perform corrective surgery for free – I would only have to pay for the replacement implant, anesthesia, and surgical center. At that point, I was not very confident or ready for another major surgery so soon after. Although there was discomfort at this time, my fear led me to compliance and I left it alone, until…
A couple of years later, I revisited Dr. Firouz due to day-to-day pain added to my discomfort. A new hole began to form, and puss began to come out again. I went to get an MRI and mammogram and it revealed a foreign object (an internal suture out of place) and fluid surrounding it. His office gave me a quote of $13,000 to revise.
I am not sharing this to speak poorly of anyone but to share with others my experience so that it may help with informed decisions with their own procedures. Not all bodies are equal, and everyone should know that there can be complications to all surgeries.
