I am 2 weeks pre Op, very excited as it’s something I have wanted and researched for quite some time. My reason for wanting is due to lack of volume - I have quite a substantial amount of tissue but not enough to need a lift. I am 24 years old with no children. I am not nervous about the surgery and have taken 3 weeks off work for recovery but it’s the return to work that I am worried about. I am a full time Reformer Pilates Teacher, I will not need to take part in the class as I usually cue and can hold off on tactile cuing and demoing Until I am ready. I am worried about the message that I’m sending to clients and that other teachers might not take me seriously post op. I don’t plan on telling people that I’m having it done but if they ask I won’t lie. I’m going for relatively small implants to fill the tissue that’s there and perk them up a bit - it’s for me when I’m naked or in a swimsuit, my current boobs don’t really bother me in clothes.
So far my journey has been interesting I went for a couple of different consultations but decided to go with River Medical in Dublin because I just really clicked with the surgeon Marcus Davis. They have been absolutely amazing. I have gone in about 4 times to try on the sizers and Aisling, the head nurse, has been so patient and understanding of my indecisiveness. I had my preop a couple of weeks ago and feel very comfortable in their hands. Also very sad but the Pilates nerd that I am looks forward to rehabbing myself post surgery after the recommended 6 weeks. Any other teachers who have had this done, I would love to hear how you found going back to work

I cannot commend the staff in the hospital enough, they have been so patient with me. I was admitted yesterday at 11am and was strangely calm. Surgery wasn’t until 5pm so was quite a wait having been fasting from the night before with no food or water so I was quite weak going in. Mr Davis really made me feel at ease, I am so so glad I chose him as my surgeon and can not recommend him enough. All went well in surgery 250cc over the muscle as discussed . I had ordered 2 bras from lipoelastic prior to surgery and am currently in a 34D which is quite comfortable. Pain has been pretty ok but the anesthetic made me so nauseous and I was vomiting from about an hour after surgery on and off until 4am , I’m very glad that I stayed in hospital.

Delighted with how they’re looking and cannot get over how small the incision mark is. Apart from being quite sick for the first few days after surgery from the anesthetic it’s been a very smooth journey. I’ve been going for short walks and bringing in small amounts of gentle Pilates movements - I teach yoga and Pilates full time so it’s very important to me that I keep as mobile as possible without pushing it. I took 3 weeks off work for this procedure and am very glad for it.

this is really helpful - i'm also nervous about time off physical activity. is that part of the reason you opted for overs instead of unders? I'll be very interested to know how your recovery is going, how much physical activity are you doing now, 20 days out?

Hi Lind, yes my doctor recommended I go over due to the amount of physical activity I do, I also had a good bit of tissue/skin there already. I was back walking as soon as I felt up to it and have dabbled in some gentle mat work at my own pace. In the last week I have gone back to using the reformer but only very basic, slow paced and making sure nothing felt weird or uncomfortable - I don’t think I’m ready to take part in a group class although I did go to a really slow flow yoga class which was gorgeous but had to give certain poses a miss (anything with spinal extension feels a bit too intense on the skin of my chest at the moment) am doing my best to hold back movement wise and it’s definitely been a big challenge to not over do it x

This is so helpful - thank you for taking the time to respond! I have another follow up consult with my doctor next week, I'll ask again about the over/under question. That's kind of what I'm expecting based on my reading - only walking at first, then slowly working myself back into yoga/pilates (I normally only do reformer but may have to work mat exercises back in...) at the 4-6 week mark, only rejoining class settings near the tail end. Taking all that time off of my fitness routine really is one of the scariest parts for me!
How have you found the struggle to stay mentally healthy and fit (to the extent possible) during your recovery?
