First time having braces: Invisalign - Some tips for the young adult

I am 26 years old and have always had a major overbite and gapped front teeth since childhood. I never received orthodontic treatment/braces. A week ago I started Invisalign and I couldn't be happier! I'm being treated by Dr. Saba in DC. I have a 18 month treatment plan and will be starting tray 2 today - I'm excited! What I've been doing to make this journey as easy as possible and not expensive is 1) Buying peroxide! You will need this to clean the white residue on your aligners. It doesn't come off with brushing with soap or toothpaste. Soak your aligners everyday in 50/50 peroxide and water mixturs for 5-10 min. Brush them clean with a toothbrush - works wonders. 2) Keep your aligners in at least 22 hours a day - don't waste your hard earned money, wear your aligners - be disciplined! You can eat whatever you want whenever you want after your treatment. I envision myself with perfect teeth and remember that cupcakes will always be there but a straight smile won't if you don't put the work in now! 3) Keep a toothbrush, aligner tray and toothpaste on you at all times 4) Buy a couple of aligner chewies - they don't sell them at CVS, Walgreens or Target ( I looked) so plan in advance and buy them off amazon. They will help make sure your aligners are in correctly so your teeth move the way they are suppose to. I hope this helps someone and you can do it!!! #smile

Delay in starting Tray 3

I am currently on Tray 3 after starting it 2 days later. I am changing my trays weekly and when I went to switch to Tray 3, on the right side (top and bottom aligner) all the way in the back on my wisdom teeth, it wasn't a perfect fit. It flopped up and down whenever I spoke so I went to my ortho this morning to figure out what was wrong. Long story short wearing Tray 2 for a couple more days helped for Tray 3 to fit better. It's still loose but nothing major now. Ortho said to wear Tray 3 for 10 days before going to the next. So far pain has been very minimal - unlike when I began Tray 1! haha I have not noticed changes in my teeth yet.. perhaps in a couple of months I will! I added photos of me wearing Tray 2 two days in. Check them out! Will post another update with photos at the end of Tray 3.

Most people agree that you start to SEE changes around tray #8, but can FEEL the changes with your bite much sooner.
Good luck with everything!

Aunt Jane you were so right! I and others around me see the changes after 8-9 trays. When I have my aligners out for dinner or lunch my friends notice. I'm so glad I am doing this for myself :)

Tray 8 - gaps closing in

User Avatar

Hi all! I work two jobs and do community work so I'm always so busy but I'm back with an update. So far I've seen major changes in the gap on my bottom teeth and see the gaps have closed some in my upper teeth! I'm wearing my aligners consistently (22 hours). However I'm not on an Invisalign diet like others, I will pop these thing about real quick honey! I love food so I was worried this would be a hassle but I'm used to it now. You'll see in my pictures and video (so random, I was getting ready for the club and had my aligners out in the video) that my gaps are closing in. I guess my overbite isn't being focused on right now which is fine!
