INVISALIGN JOURNEY - MADE ME VERY SICK
UPDATED FROM BlackMermaid
1 year post
After a year of being poorly, finally I have been referred to a specialist!
$2,465
Well, I cant belive it. A whole year has passd, I cant remember the last time I slept. But I knocked the bar off my teeth and had to drag myself back to the dentist... and boy I hate it. But then somethiing good happened, the dentist was actually bothered. She listened to me. She cared. Then I was introduced to a really nice, friendly lady who booked me in to see the specialist. I admit at this point im there like, yeah, what numpty they gonna send me to see now? ....But he actually knows whats wrong with me. I have TMJD, which is a problem with my joints, and thats from wearing the plastic brace *over* my teeth and it changing my bite, thus causing pain. I have a deep bite and apparently, the original invisalign isnt suitable for me, and this dentist said it would obviously alter my bit in such a way that it would cause me pain. I do wish this had been picked up on the FIRST time round!!
So I am pleased to say, I am now in the care of somebody who knows what the hell im talking about. I have had my splint re-fitted, (its much more comfortable), im under a new care programme, and I feel like maybe, just MAYBE, i'll get rid of the health issues surrounding this and one night in the future... I may get a nights sleep. (Insomnia is the worse symptom for me, next to ear pressure. Try doing anything when you feel like your brains being crushed and youre getting an hour or two sleep a night.)
I hope this is the beginning of the end and my body responds well to my new dentists work. <3 So far, I feel optimistic.

Still waving in and out of pain in my temples.
Slight stiff neck.
Tinnitus in left ear hasnt changed - still about a 3/10 loudness mainly heard at night.
Vision dizzyness/blurring is still here.
Insomnia is slightly better, when I take various pills to put me to sleep. Im getting 4-5 hours a night.
No word from the dentist about my help or report - so much for sending me to a specialist and helping me get my teeth looked at in more detail. Utter waste of space that clinic.
Last week they put a retainer bar in my bottom. It was possibly the worst thing ive had done in years - i hated it. It was really brutal so be in for a treat with that. They wouldnt put one on my top because my teeth arent in a very good position, so now ive got to have a plastic retainer at night and i didnt want this. My teeth do look better but id go back to before with my health and my money if id known this was going to happen and id be left not getting any help with it.

I'm sorry that you experienced all that. I have red from some guy who developed issues, that he wore his trays in reverse to go back in time in the position before the issues started.

Sorry for the late reply. I read that also. I couldn’t do that because they shaved in between all my teeth. If my teeth went back to where they were I would need veneers. Don’t let people shave your teeth. Honestly it was the worst decision I’ve ever made!!

Regretting my choice for Invisalign - TMJ, Tinnitus, Jaw pain, Insomnia, ear pain
This product for me has been an absolute nightmare. I was doing fine, until i finished my trays and then they gave me "refinement" which consisted of another load of trays. I went ahead, as my teeth if im honest havnt moved all that much how I wanted them to.
The gap closed, and now they were looking slightly more tidy but the issue with my two front teeth was still there.
On my second tray in the refinement stage, I noticed buzzing in my left ear. Sadly, im one of those lucky patients that developed tinnitus during my treatment. It was faint at first and I wasnt even sure it was my ear, but by tray 3 it was louder and I could hear it constantly. I was getting very upset about this, but this was just the start of a huge can of symptoms....
My neck went stiff, and I was getting headaches more and more. My vision was a bit off - almost blurry. I started getting fullness in my left ear - the same ear as the tinnitus - and I sometimes had an ear ache.
This all started in February 2018 this year.
I went to a ENT specialist who told me my ear was perfect and that everything was better than normal andmy pain was something else. I had no infection or loss of hearing, just weird symptoms that nobody could diagnose. Then I googled it and read that there plenty of folk out there that had the same issues as me with this product.
I have developed TMJ problems due to having plastic on my teeth, which altered my bite for so loong.
Next I went to see a TMJ specialist in London, Patrick Grossman. He explained to me my joint in my jaw was slipping and the braces were causing my jaw to sit backwards and work differently, thus causing me trouble. I had to pay £2600 for a splint, which was probably the best thing I ever bought - instantly my jaw unlocked and I felt somewhat better. Headaches started to sooth, and I wasnt feeling as much pain. Before I was taking pain killers every day, now its much less frequently. The worst part of my symptoms currently is the insomnia. The jaw damage has disrupted my cranial nerves and i cant get more than an hours sleep on sleep meds. I am tired constantly and when my jaw aches its awful. Right in front of my ears.
I have now had my splint in for a month, and unfortunately my teeth shifted back and were showing signs of the shaving. I was really unhappy so I decided to pop the brace back in to tweak my teeth, especially now my jaw was feeling better - I didnt have them in long and my symptoms blew up again. I am now currently with a splint, and the Invisalign is under my bed - where it belongs. I wont ever use it again and i will not recommend it. Its not a great way to straighten teeth long term due to pressure on your jaw joint - and when it goes, boy its painful and irritating. I am plagued each day with a variety of symptoms and feel gutted i responded this way.
If you are thinking of getting braces Id highly recommend wire braces by a trained orthodontist, not a dentist selling you a product.
Its not been worth the damage to my head nor my bank balance. I am now in splint therapy, seeing a osteopath every week, having regular massages and am on sleeping pills and muscle relaxants.
These horror stories DO HAPPEN, so be careful!
I will add a photo with my current teeth status and my original starting point.
There IS a clear difference, but not as much as id hoped.
It wasnt worth it for me personally and hope I get better soon. Peace and Love to anybody struggling. x

Why don't you file a lawsuit for all the damages it caused? Did they tell you initially before the treatment that these may be the symptoms that can be caused in patients? Horrific!!

Oh and YES. The know its a problem - it happens to patients with a certain bite. The original Invisalign they put me in werent really right for me teeth, they said I was likely to have issues - but nobody warned me this when I got them. I know everybody likes to throw a punch but honestly, iI havt slept in a year. All I want is my health back on track. So im hoping in a month they'll be positive blogging going on here!

Hi Adam, I am so tired right now I cant be bothered. I am focussing on getting better. Funnily enough, the story hasnt quite finished as I now have been sent, by the dentist practice that sold me the invisalign to a specialist. Its bee a whole year ive been repeatedly unwell, and this guy knows exactly whats wrong and is trying to help me. Ive been in his care two weeks. So fingers crossed ill get better soon. Thanks for your comment :)
At this point, I still have tinnitus and occasionally I have to see my Osteopath for help with my Jaw and my neck.
I’m no longer wearing my splint. Thankfully :)
