Rhinoplasty + Alar Retraction Q&A

I'm very self conscious of my nostril and tip area and want to know if I'm a good candidate for a rhinoplasty? I'm worried my case complex due to hanging columella or retraced alar? Does this require grafts?

Ive noticed my nostrils have taken a weird shape after rhinoplasty. What is this? Is it difficult to fix? Who can fox this. I would like to have rounded looking nostrils again.

Hello! I had my first rhinoplasty over a year ago and my nostrils now look triangular from the front. Ive heard this is called notching or alar retraction. I am aware that an alar rim graft can fix this but i am more wanting clarity on what causes this. Feel free to use medical terminology and techniques, I understand them. Hi, I am looking to address the tip of my nose. I am unsure if I have a hanging columella, retracted alar rim, or both. My concern is mainly being able to see into my nostrils from the side profile which tends to be more obvious when I smile. Thanks

Hello! I have chosen a surgeon for my rhinoplasty but I have seen a few of his patients have retracted or notched nostrils. I have acquired the surgical notes from several of his primary patients, to see if his techniques are to be blamed for this. I have read that notching occurs with over-aggressive cephalic trim. It appears he cuts 3mm cephalic resection and 3mm caudal resection for most of his patients, and doesn't add alar rim. Could I get someones opinion about these techniques?

Does alar retraction happen immediately after a rhinoplasty if its going to occur? Or is it something that takes months to develop? Would you have very arched nostrils post surgery?

I cant afford a second rhinoplasty and my surgeon wont do a revision. I am two years post op but youd think I need rhinoplasty let alone had one. Would massaging/pulling on the nostril help? I also clearly have scarring inside that has hardened. Is there anything to help that after 2 years?

I recently had a consultation. I dislike how significant my alar notching is. Surgeon said that he can not fix it. Are all surgeons unable to fix this because of how severe it is?

Hello, I was wondering if what I have is hanging columella only, or if I have that plus alar retraction. I'd like to know whether hanging columella surgery alone can improve the appearance of my nose, so it looks less bottom heavy and my nostrils don't show as much as they do now, or if I will have to resort to both procedures to achieve a good result.
