Hi, I have a gummy smile that I am extremely self conscious about. I had braces in the middle school and at that time I was recommended to have jaw surgery on both of my jaws to have them essentially broken and reset. My parents decided not to go through with the surgery and instead I got spreader bar on the roof of my mouth to widen my top jaw. I am now looking for other options to correct my gummy smile that does not require jaw surgery as recommend by my dentis
When I smile, a decent part of my smile is gummy. My teeth are definitely on the shorter side (photo 1). Questions: 1. Could my smile look like the photoshopped picture of my smile (photo 2) thanks to a gingivectomy all the way to my 2nd premolars? 2. What type of procedure/technique would be best suited for my case? Thank you. (Dont be afraid to be technical with the answers.)
I have had a gum lift twice, but both times it looks great at first and exactly what I want and then the gums just fall back down again and I go back to a gummy smile. Why is that? The first time I had it done with a laser and the second time I had the scalpel and suture approach because they said that would be more permanent. Any advice? I have also had lip lowering. There is no medical reason to have any sort of jaw surgery.
I'm wanting to have veneers soon and want the best result possible. It was suggested on my last post that a gum lift would be reccomended for symmetry . Im wondering on how many teeth should i have the lift for the best result? I was thinking just the front 2 teeth #8 #9 or even the 1 uneven one in the front? But what do you think? Can I have this done in the same sitting as the veneers or is it best to have the gum lift separately? How much healing time is needed before veneer placement ?
