Am I experiencing gum recession? (Photo)

I'm in my twenties but I struggle to brush my teeth regularly because no matter what I do my gums bleed. This has always been the case. Flossing hurts (also always been the case). I had braces for 2 years and always kept them clean.

You fortunately have not YET experienced gum recession in the area you are showing here; however, if your teeth continue to have accumulated plaque you will more than likely have gum recession. You will also have bleeding gums, cavities, bad breath and periodontal disease. Healthy gums do not bleed. If it hurts to floss then your gums are not healthy. If they always bleed when you floss and brush then you most likely have accumulation of bacterial tartar which requires a professional cleaning to remove.

I suggest you visit a dental hygienist and have your teeth professionally cleaned and have the hygienist demonstrate how you properly floss and brush. Once your gums are healthy they will not bleed or hurt.
