Hi I've been in bed with the flu for the past couple of days and haven't been as observant as usual. I had a breast reduction over 5 weeks ago and tonight I noticed that my right nipple and aereola seem to be going purple compared to my left. I have been wearing a bandeau so maybe it cut off the circulation? Should I be worried?
I had a breast reduction about 10 days ago. My nipple area had poor circulation since leaving the OR. What are my options? A little background, I am 32 years old, I had breast augmentation surgery when I was 19 and a revision at 20 to correct differently shaped and sized breasts. During this most recent surgery, I had both implants removed and and had a lift and reduction.
I had delayed attachment of the areola/nipple complex due to circulation problems during my reduction. Everything was completed about a week later and I have had no additional circulation issues. But because my PS wanted to be cautious, I was told to wear a loose-fitting, post-surgical bra (about 2 sizes too big) with little to no actual breast support so that there would be no constriction problems. I think the weight of my breasts have caused some separation between the sutures.
Part of my right areola and nipple is dark red/purple. I can't tell if this is just dried blood or possible circulation issues? Am I going to suffer permanent damages? Also, in the same nipple I have no feeling.
My breast reduction was done on 5/28, but the nipple/areola areas were left detached until 6/3 due to circulation concerns. I have feeling in both nipples and my incisions from the reduction itself seem to be doing well. I'm just a little concerned about the separation at the bottom of the areola, especially on my left breast. I keep them moist and covered with non-stick gauze pads and Neosporin, and change the dressings each morning and evening.
